In depth look at Kenneth Grant and Draft Grades/Reactions

I’d much rather project upside on a guy that tests rediculous from an athletic standpoint point then polish as a pass rusher development.

Kinda makes me think the upside isn’t as much as people are talking about outside of pass rush/hand use development.

He’s toolsy but not freakish. I kinda want a little of both top 15.

Good GMs dont draft for need, best available player and they make it work via free aganecy.

Ozzie Newsome's philosophy was to draft the best available player, regardless of team need. This approach, often referred to as "best player available" (BPA), was a core principle of his tenure as the Baltimore Ravens general manager. Newsome's draft selection of Jonathan Ogden in 1999, even though it wasn't a position of immediate need, exemplified this philosophy.
lol… Wrong. Ozzie, who is definitely a top 10 all time GM didn’t, but many, arguably better GM’s, did. Let’s not pretend that Ozzie is the only GM that had a good philosophy.

Actually, I think that’s why so many fans are always so angry. They think one way is the best way to do something and when their opinions aren’t adhered to, they throw fits. Chris Grier isn’t some great GM, he’s about average, but when people use the “Win a SB or you suck” mantra it’s always going to be someone sucks. I mean, Ozzie was a GM for 24 years. His teams missed the playoffs in 13 of those years. He had 13 seasons with a winning record. Yes, he won 2 SB’s. In his first 10 years as a GM he had 4 winning seasons.

It was a need. Seen his highlights. Interesting. Has some good speed for his size. Hopefully coaching and training will get him up to NFL speed quickly as he's going to be needed on that IDL.
Seen a few comments on media and here slating the pick. Saw exactly the same not so long ago with Chop when he got drafted by our team. Look how he blossomed. Don't judge the player before he's had a chance to suit up and play. Good be another great pick.

And Weaver has to be considered here. He’s known as a DL guru. Grant was picked because he’s nasty, big, and can do a lot. He will free up Sieler and our DE’s. If they try and put one guy on him he’s getting the sack/tackle.

It’s a bad pick if he’s a 2 down nose I know that much.

I wish he tested better cause the tape looks like a pretty good athlete. Needs to play with consistent pad level.

Chasing Dexter Lawrence is hard and that cat had a 9.85 ras tested rediculous. I tbink Grant had like a 7.5 that’s a big difference.

All I know is I better be seeing him on all 3 downs.

I don’t buy grier got texted by other gms you took my guy. I mean why even say that? To justify the pick to the media I guess.

We pretty much started the run on dts hope it isn’t like when we started the run on ots with eich.
He's done that kind of BS before -- and that's exactly what I thought when hearing it -- WHY even bring it up unless you're obviously insecure about the pick. Beyond that, for what I wanted, it was 100% a need based decision when we had that Penn State TE sitting there -- and that dude looked like the kind of IMPACT we need regardless of position.

Certainly I could be totally wrong on that kid -- but I'm 100% sure this pick was NOT BPA but need. And sometimes you just gotta pick the obvious best player and build your program with high performance parts! Last, the DT class is supposed to be "deep" so it's not like R2 or R3 couldn't address the "need." Grier blows... That much is proven.

when you take someone at #13 who was graded as player #30, it is a reach. was it something they potentially had to do, given the spot they were in? yup, probably
Mel Kiper also had Shedeur Sanders as QB1 didn't he? I don't know why we rely so much on 'experts' when we watch the games and players ourselves.

I think anyone that's watched Michigan even a few times knows that Grant is a guy that can dominate the LOS.

lol made it about 2 sentences before I couldn’t go any longer. Everything you said is completely made up and your interpretation, not reality.
ps this was my summary. the fact that you cannot tolerate people seeing both sides of the coin, and giving the pick a "B" grade, you are just an immature thinker and a tout for the team. nothing more nothing less. i know your grades for the rest of their draft are also A++++, without the picks even being made yet:

i was on record ahead of time that i did not want the guy at 13. i think grier did not manage the board well and could have traded back and still picked him up. but after sleeping on it overnight, i had a few more thoughts. trading back, requires skill too. grier goes back to 22, the guy could have come off the board at 20, for example. there is risk, and i do not trust griers skill at managing the board. then given the position, and the size and athletic ability of the player, it is hard to envision him being a straight bust. and it did fill a need. he seems like he should be able to play and contribute day 1, which is what you want out of the first (and 2nd) round pick. he does not seem to be an injury guy, thank god, which is good. he does seem to have some conditioning and motivational issues. so i give the pick a B give or take. problem is we needed an A+ plus draft, which with grier, neither I nor many others expected to happen.

Ps the dolphins knew they were reaching for grant. that is why they were trying to trade back and it is pretty apparent they were (grier seemed to alude to this in his post draft presser). were there no offers, or grier wanted too much? or the best offer came from too far back and therefore was too risky? we will never know. BUT the big problem is we were so desperate at the position, grier had to reach. the fact that we had to do this is on grier. we should have never been in this position.

you want to be able to go with BPA, but when you go into the draft with so many big holes to fill, you can’t go BPA. The fact that we have this problem at guard, safety, CB and DT is all griers fault.

Based off Griers history picking players you can safely bet this was the wrong direction to take at #13.

Based off your history and other weekend warrior draft naysayers just like you, we can safely bet that this take is wrong.

Makes sense but the strength kinda gears me away from 0 and more big 3 tech. 22 reps 3 tech ok fine 22 reps nose umm ehhh. Better drop your pad level.
I don’t see the bench being a test of strength, after a certain number it’s more a test of endurance and how well your body holds up to lactic acid build up. 225lb for these guys is a warm up weight.

I’d be more interested in his 1 rep max for squats, power cleans and deadlifts.

Does anyone know double team stats for Grant and Graham?

As far as strength goes read that excerpt from his strength coach below

That’s pretty intense despite 22 reps on the bench

Don’t see the reasoning for this post? What because he’s big? Saw some bogus conditioning rumors but he played just as many snaps as Mason Graham. He’s a pretty high motor player, dude chases down screens and caught that running back like 20 yards downfield from behind.

It’s 2025 dude lets have some body positivity, big is beautiful
He never missed a game in college…that’s a major positive versus Grier’s usual picks…..
