In His Own Words: Jimmy Wilson

Yeah Jeff Ireland must have hated Chad Henne, he didn't have final say over all personnel moves or anything.... Oh, wait.

Parcells was there as an old voice of "wisdom" and an advisor, but Ireland made the final decision. In layman's terms, that's how his contract was worded. Fact.
Fact... I haven't seen the contract. have you?

For Jeff Ireland to really turn around his reputation, it's not going to be the Ryan Tannehills and Jonathan Martins of the Draft that have to end up starters...it's the Jimmy Wilsons and those types that have to turn out really good finds in the late rounds.

The Dolphins have been missing that since Ireland took over in 2008. Donald Thomas started for a year and then lost his job. Chris Clemons started for a year and then lost his job. Reshad Jones started for a year and I think we all know he shouldn't have. He'll start again this year and now we'll see if he was worth it. Charles Clay is a #2 TE and we talk him up but he still only caught 16 balls for the Dolphins in 2011.

RB Jalen Parmele
OG Donald Thomas
RB Lex Hilliard
DT Lionel Dotson
TE John Nalbone
FS Chris Clemons
OT Andrew Gardner
LB J.D. Folsom
CB Nolan Carroll
SS Reshad Jones
LB Chris McCoy
LB Austin Spitler
TE Charles Clay
DT Frank Kearse
DB Jimmy Wilson
LB Josh Kaddu
WR B.J. Cunningham
DT Kheeston Randall
WR Rishard Matthews

Late round picks are not good bets but every now and then you need to hit on one of these guys. The Patriots have not exactly been the model of Draft success over the years, least not to the extent people make them out to be, but they've gotten more contributions out of their late picks like Julian Edelman, Myron Pryor, Zoltan Mesko, Brandon Deaderick and Marcus Cannon.

Patriots also got something from a late round pick named Brady

I don't really understand why Marcus Cannon is on the Patriot's list. Yeah he was a 5th round pick but before the Lymphoma wasn't he like a top 5 OL prospect?

Ireland brought us an awesome punter, a very good kicker, a couple of good UDFAs... and a Canadian stud in Cameron Wake

Hey look at our current roster for how many of the players on it were drafted by the Dolphins. For the first time since Shula has left we currently have the most players accuired by the Dolphins including college draft picks , college FA's and Canandian imports ie Cammeron Wake than we have ever had. I keep hearing the clamoring about wanting Irelands head, look at the history of the Dolphins GM's and keep saying be careful what you ask for because we have had a boatload of it before Ireland that looks alot worse. Do I blame Ireland for some of those picks not make it sure, do I blame Sporano for not making the offensive line work sure, do I blame Parcells for hiing Sporano and Ireland and not getting it done sure. I also believe the roster is much better off than it has been for a long time even without Marshall and most of that if because of the players on the current roster many of them home grown.
Still for those of you who wish Ireland to be gone he is going to give you your chance. Ireland was in on hiring Philbin (he was not on Sporano) and Parcells is all gone so the whole game plan is on Irelands shoulders. It has been interesting reading the threads on this years draft (which many of the posters seem to think is improved from prior years) and some of the inferred credit that was given to Philbin instead of Ireland.

As far as the following players IMO all but 1 is still playng for the Dolphins and this years later round draft picks are a little "early" to add the list of busted picks don't you think. The later round picks take time to develop the majority of the time and yes I think some of them can be sucessful with better coaching. If I recall 2 free agents we had here Chris Crocker and Givins (safties) went on to Cinci to play for Croyle and had a pretty good rate of success. When you loose like we have then not many of your players are going to voted much to the Pro Bowl or listed in the top 100 players even if they play very pretty well it is just the way it works. Coaching wins games more than the players. Let's hope we finally have a winnier in Philbin.

I'll be fair about it, i'm not inclined to judge ireland... good or bad on anything that happened prior to Sep 2010.
