Gase cited the finale against Buffalo, when the Dolphins knew they weren’t going to the playoffs, as a day Fales showed him something. Fales looked smooth and confident, earning a shot at winning the backup job this summer in open competition with Brock Osweiler. Gase said the game “was not a throwaway game” for the Bills, who won 22-16 and went to the playoffs.
“I was impressed with some of the things that he did in that game,” Gase said. “It’s a lot of the stuff that you see in practice but you don’t know unless you get him in a game. The way that his anticipation is, the way his pocket presence is, he’s one of those guys that sometimes he makes plays and you’re not really sure how he did that. The game is a little slower for him. It’s fun to call plays when you’ve got a guy like that where you just know that ball is coming out. You just better be in the right spot.”

Good to hear progress is being made....super important to have confidence and progress at the back up positions...this team looks/sounds like it has made leaps toward being better

I thought he did well in that game. There was one Houdini escape from the pocket that was impressive. I hope he continues to grow as I don’t think we have much in Rottweiler

If we have to rely on fales then we are screwed. Even more than with hobbled tannehill.

Biggest mistake last year was getting Cutler instead of playing fales. I think we will be surprised if we need to go to him. He was not easy to sack against buffalo, seemed to have the ability to brush off free rushers.

I guess it at least appears as if we'r investing in the back up position with developing Fales for now. I don't think back up Qb is really a top priority or we'd have drafted a guy.

Fales better be the backup, b/c if TH goes down then I want us to tank the season and grab a QB high.

Good afternoon bro. I don't think Fales is made up that way. If he was put in there I can see him giving everything he has. I know he has limitations.

I'm sure he will give it his all, but I dont think his all is very good, atleast not yet. And if he does suprise and balls out, well thats a good problem to have.

Having to use your backup QB, doesn’t mean the season is tanked. Certain situations, your starting Qb could be out just a single game, maybe two, with a stinger or something, and then you’d like your backup to be competent enough to possibly win at least one, if not both of those games..

Dude, we've got a Rottweiler! That's a smart breed. If we can just fix his throwing mechanics.

Anyone else think this may just be Gase trying to cover his ass in a way??

If Tannehill goes down.....

"The reason we didnt trade up 1 or 2 spots to draft a QB is because I had confidence in giving Fales a real shot"

That may buy him some more time/save some face if the unthinkable happens? Possibly give him another year to draft a new QB even?
