I have not defended him this year and I certainly don't want him back

but in the interest of truth, our depth is for ****. and Ireland's choices have left the cupboard bare for the most part

this is a really pointless thread, all things considered.

its kind of fortunate that we don't have the depth to keep going, or we might have ended up 10-6 and another year of droopy dog

when we were half-assed healthy, droopy dog pussied out. we needed wins early to guard against injuries that every team faces.

bad in-game calculations, bad season-as-a-whole calculations.

I don't think any thread that involves the word "defense" is going to be taken seriously today.

No offense intended, either.

(Ha! Get it?)

I'm going to go back to drinking now.

He is way over his head and always looks lost. F*ck Philbin. Yet another bad hire as a head coach for the Dolphins.

I agree with this. Six years of Jeff Ireland is this team's biggest problem right now.

Allow me to toot my own horn for a second here, but before this season I warned people that Hickey probably couldn't undo the damage Ireland did to some key positions (particularly OL) in just one off-season. Well, you see it now. Jeff left us with such a bad offensive line that the only two competent starters we have under contract in 2016 were guys Hickey brought in this off-season. Our best in-house candidate to become a starter (Billy Turner) was also brought in by Hickey. We're having to rebuild from the ground up after six years of ineptitude. You guys can see it. We need help badly at DT, LB, CB, WR, RB, OG. At some of these positions, we have sub-replacement level starters. That's 100% a function of having a lousy GM for six years.

So yes, that's something to keep in mind as we bitch about the job that Joe Philbin has done. But we should still try to upgrade our head coach.

Perhaps next year we won't have to hear the word Ireland anymore. My head hurts. You can only type a sentence with the word so many times.

Philbin was a fraud from day one. He brought with him delusions of a Packers like offense that would be "Explosive." 3 years later and we are finding that our 3rd year qb, and Philbin choice along with Sherman and Ireland, was not able to audible at the line still (If that is true).
Joe wanted Sherman to stay, wanted Turner to stay. He's just not what we need in a HC. I can't really think of any team that he's a good fit for.

I thought our biggest problem was scheme and playcalling and an overall lack of game planning, even more so than injuries. Our coordinators are ****. Even with good and healthy players, we would still be at 7-7 because our coordinators don't know how to effectively use the personnel they have. And the fault of having bad coordinators lies with Philbin.

what a dumb thread

time to quit talking out my ass and just sit back to watch Ross do it all wrong over again

FOr the most part...the coordinators have done a good job, but lets be honest...how can you game plans whe you trot out the likes of Shappard, Wheeler, and Trunzik and LB?

How about game planning for an offense that has about as bad of an o-line as last year...coupled with almost no playmakers.

I think Philbin has done a commendable job winning as many games as he has with the roster he has...this is a 4-12 roster that he will have at 500 or better...

The only way Joe could have brought with him the GB explosive offense was to bring Rodgers with him....Maybe Joe knew the results wouldn't change by changing the coach staff because we need better players...... I don't put all this on Joe and or Ireland.....This is the NFL, its not easy to go from 1-15 to 8-8 and its harder to go from 8-8 to the playoffs consistently and its rare to go from the playoffs to the SB......I' m tired of all the bashing of the coaches every yr, first yr it was a new HC, then new OC and DC then change the OC then change the OL coach then new GM.....Its time we let the GM have a chance to build this team with the vision he was hired for. If he determines the best coaching candidate is on this team right now, I will support him.....what good is firing a guy to replace him with the level of competence and the same level of talent? I can see the writing on the wall....we fire Joe and all the top prospects go to better situations, we end up settling for a clown with no HC experience who needs to learn on the job, I rather keep the clown we got who has 3 yrs of experience on the job who is this close to breaking into the playoffs....

I agree with this to a point. The lack of depth is a major issue on this team......but....

Detroit
Denver
Green Bay

In my opinion, these were coaching losses. We had enough talent to win these games but situational football kept us from doing so.

Yesterday, our lack of depth showed up in a big way. These other three games, I think was a coaching issue.

I agree. But I think you are overlooking the integral part that JOE played in spending those big bucks and draft picks that Ireland bragged about. Hartline. Gibson. Ellerbe. Wheeler. ALL choices in which JOE figured bigtime. His choices.

Joe simply cannot evaluate talent well as HC. He's the kind of coach who calls out one of his few playmakers like RT, while puffing up Dallas Thomas as decent. Joe is the kind of coach that can coach the talent but when he acquires talent he almost always blows it.

Joe was part of the Ireland debacle drafts and FA acquisitions, make no mistake.

I don't get that. We know that Joe and Jeff weren't even on speaking terms. How can we blame Joe for Jeff's awful free agent acquisitions? Especially when we know that the one player Joe lobbied hard for -- Branden Albert -- Jeff wouldn't go get?

Now, as for Joe's weird decisions on who to start and who to sit? Yeah. That's on him, and it's a BIG reason why I want to move on.
