I was just wondering if you guys think it would be possible (or even a good idea) to talk someone into coming in NOW, instead of promoting someone within the current staff. If you promote an "interim" coach, I feel you get more of the same. Sure, you might pick up a few wins, at first, but then fall off later.

If Ross could talk someone into coming in now, he (the coach) would be able to find out who can and can't play for him, or AT ALL for that matter. Do these players suck because they don't have talent, or is it because the scheme, or that the existing coaching staff is clueless?

To me, I would feel better off coming in now, and trying to see what I can get out of these guys (coaches included). If you can see a turnaround during THIS season, you have a better idea of where you have to make MAJOR changes. I know any coach that comes in is going to want "HIS" guys, but maybe there are some guys here that CAN do the job, if they were coached properly.

I know bringing a new coach in during the season is unheard of, and unorthodox, but do you think if Ross threw enough $$ at someone it could happen, and pay off?

Sparano deserves one last year, I feel. I'd be thrilled if a Cowher or a Gruden wanted to jump on board right now, but unless we go 0-6 (a possibility, which is sad) I doubt any real changes are made before the end of the season. And most likely Nolan takes over, since he has the head coaching experience. Which I think is even scarier.

If you remember in the 2007-2008 season, The Giants started off by losing to the Cowboys and the Packers (division rival and potential playoff bound team, sound familiar?) And everyone was calling for Tom Coughlin's head. By the end of the year they squeaked into the playoffs, got to the super bowl, and upset the Pats, saving our legacy to boot. I think we owe it to the staff to let them try to make a miracle. But, sadly, don't get your hopes up. It's probably gonna be a long year.

No coach is going to come off the street and pickup a mess like this mid-season. All the losses would still count on his record. You would get an "interm" HC from someone on staff until the end of the year when a real coaching search can take place. If I had to guess we would see Nolan taking over as an interm coach for the rest of the season, I would pick Nolan only because he has HC experience.

Dude that giants team was way better then this phins team. Eli > Henne.

They don't need to "bring in" anyone. They give Nolan his shot. He gets to coach the team from the break until the end of the season. If he shows a definite turn-around, he is coach next year. (Have to take into account the personnel he is provided with of course...) If he doesn't, then fire his *** too next year. Quite frankly the defense hasn't been anything to write home about lately....

He did deserve one last year...that was last year. Now he deserves to be fired...

not a good idea. i cant stand sparano. hes a terrible coach and hes a bumbling idiot. but it doesnt even make sense to get rid of him midseason. what does it solve? it doesnt give u a chance to evaluate another viable coaching candidate already on the roster because really there are none, in part because the entire culture needs to change and sometimes u have to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

really as difficult as is to do. u almost support sparano and let him go at the end of the year. UNLESS ur already certain u want him gone, and ur concerned he could rally the team and win some measure of public support. dont really think this is an issue at this point

I have to disagree. It shows the players and the fanbase that the status quo is not acceptable and changes are being made. It gives a glimmer of hope to a hopeless situation.

Did you make this up?

Absolutely, would a coaching change mid season be a solid idea. Nolan is a viable candidate to at least lead the team beyond Sparano's firing, if it happens. The turn around could be Jim Bates-esque, at least. Firing Sparano is no more terrible an idea than keeping him with a few more consecutive losses. The pros and cons are equal.

I would be concerned for locker room moral and congruity. Last thing we need are players looking for a ticket out of Miami. A coaching change could possibly extinguish some volatile personalities for a short time.

by that statement im saying if it gets bad enough -meaning morale, and the losing culture - then EVERYBODYS got to go. regardless what we think of them - Nolan for instance im sure a lot of you have respect for. im saying if things get too bad here in Miami hell be a victim of circumstance perhaps BUT hell need to go as well.

NEW VOICE - new culture, everything old and familiar is gone

Crappy as it might be, Sparano is probably here for the duration of this season. I don't think that Ross will make the same mistake he did last year when he went searching for a replacement while Sparano was still the coach. That made Ross look very foolish. What I think is more likely is that Ross tells Ireland to throw some feelers out for Sparoanos' replacement on the down low and than Ross will fire Sparano at season's end and have some coaching prospects already lined up.

We're talking about this season solely. If a mid season change were to happen, only the remaining games of the season would be of concern. This is not a change that flows right into another 3 year building plan. More or less, patchwork till the offseason. By re-branding the head coaching position from within your able to provide the franchise with a slight boost of dignity without uprooting the system and making the coaching transition smooth. Look at Garret in Dallas from last year.

Plus, if a season is already half way in the can, a " NEW VOICE - new culture, everything old and familiar is gone" remedy would be useless for half a season. Slap a new name on the head coaching position now and find a coach in the offseason. Plus, no sane coaching option is going to be available from outside the club right now.

the players who sandbagged will be found out who when where and why. shows the players the status quo unnacceptable? yeah, it works both ways.

any new regime is going to start all over.

Henne will not be here. He will go elsewhere and guess what? he will be successful.
Soliai is gone. Langford as well probably. Players are not going to go through this crap again and again. They will test the market and leave the re-occuring nightmare that is the Miami Dolphins.

Steven Ross needs to pull a Balt Ravens move here and get out of this market. It sucks. If everything needs to be gone, then so does this market!!!!!

Miami market sucks!

U see? this is the reason why none of us are owners, gm's, coaches.

U absolutely do no such thing!!!! ireland is Sparano's buddy. U kidding me????? no way no how does Ireland stick around doing something that would kill his own neck not to mention there would be bias as to who he would pick to save his own ars!

CMON MAN!
