I know we have huge needs in the defense and probably a guard too, but would anyone else like to see us draft a big time TE in the first like Howard or Njoku?

I personally see it as a want, not a need. We absolutely need to focus on drafting defensive players in the first rounds.

But as always, our draft will be dictated by what we do in free agency.

I know and you are so right, but what a difference a real play-maker at TE could make for this sometimes struggling offence.

The SOMETIMES strugling offense? Compared to the ALWAYS strugling defense? You have your answer

Ozzy rules!!

Tight end would be cool but I'm not sure if it's in the hands this offseason. I'd sacrifice one fairly early pick to the offense if the right player drops. Otherwise all defense.

The DE/Edge situation won't be clear until after the Combine. It looks like there should be a quality talent available at 22. Right now, I'm favoring Takkarist McKinley, but he may not be available.

It might be best to address LB in RD 2 (again, too early to say for sure). Safety is another strong group.

I really think that Miami has to prioritize defensive talent, but Howard and Njoku are serious talents, so I couldn't be TOO mad about Miami drafting either at 22.

It really depends on how many draft picks Miami ultimately has. If they really only have a 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7, you can't waste a pick on a side of the ball that isn't as lacking as the other.

Sure we've talked about comp picks but if those are just a 4 and 5 that still doesn't give Miami a ton of wiggle room to draft positions that aren't entirely crucial.

Agreed. My priorities are OLB, OG, slot, DE. TE is a need, but not a top 4. Now, if Gase solves 3 of those in FA (I doubt it), draft strategy changes.

I would LOVE Njoku ...I just don't see it being very smart to spend a 2nd rounder on a TE when our defense needs so many pieces. But I love that kid and will follow him where ever he lands, hopefully outside of the AFCE.

It would be hard to get mad if grabbed Howard. He looks to be an amazing prospect that would cause absolute nightmares for DC's for years. The problem is we would need to sign at least 2 free agent LBs and 1 guard for it not to be a dumb move. Options to throw the ball to is not a problem in Miami. The opposite is probably true, as we gear up to resign Still and have to convince him he can get more looks this season. The other problem with grabbing a TE is not once have you ever heard that a TE was the difference maker that brought a team to the super bowl. Gronk is the best NFL, and no one has noticed he is on the IR. We haven't drafted a LB since 2013, and defense was the reason our season ended on Wild Card weekend.

Why don't we give Simms an opportunity to showcase his skill set. All I know we better not go offense in 1st rd. But if we really want a tight end we can draft homegrown talent

after oj howard wrecks the senior bowl practices and 1 on 1's next week I think you can kiss that one good bye...McKinley will be an interesting watch senior bowl week...I say that cause his 2015 tape he looks like a paperweight out there his 2016 tape he's noticeably thicker etc and listed at 240 from what I saw and now the senior bowl invite listing for his weight says 265

somethings a miss there...you don't go from paper to 265 in less than a year and a half...if miamis truly interested in Melvin ingram it's probably interested in McKinley for the same reasons...even if im not sure I see that level violent hands with the latter

as for howard if somehow we land him I will do cart wheels..cause it shouldn't sniff us once he runs 4.5's with wr fluidity and that size

It's a good discussion.

Maybe someone can answer this for me. O.J. Howard looks all-world at tight end, but I keep wondering why he wasn't more productive. Say what you will about Nick Saban. He is a smart coach so I wonder why Howard was underutilized. Not doubting the talent, but I think that's a legitimate question.

I'd favor almost exclusively defense in the draft, but you've got to be open to all possibilities.

underutilized cause that team was loaded with talent...at every level...bama barely scratched the surface with that kid...watch him run down the seam from in line...it's ridiculous how fast he gets down the field and how fluid he is...not his fault the qb isn't looking that way

he catches flat routes where the cover player has the angle to stop him short of the sticks out runs the coverage to the sticks etc...he looks like amari cooper just about fluidity wise in a 6 foot 6 251 lb frame...he's got all the talent in the world

might not have the body type to carry 265 all that well though...kind of lean in the rear but god is he fluid

He looks really quick and seems to play with good energy. How is his blocking?
