I know they have it in the NBA, but do they have it in the NFL. If they do we should have done that for Daunte and Ricky.

We did it with Detroit in the Joey Harrington deal. It was conditional 5th or 6th depending on performance. He started over half the season so Detroit gets our 5th pick this year.

well we did give a conditional pick for ricky when we traded for him.......

Compensatory Picks:

COMPENSATORY DRAFT PICKS: Compensation awarded by the league to teams who lost more UFAs than they signed. Compensation is in the form of extra draft picks added to the end of rounds three through seven. The quantity of picks is equivalent to the difference of UFAs signed to UFAs lost. For example, if a team loses 4 UFAs and signs 1 UFA, they will receive three Compensatory Selections. The value of the picks is determined by the difference of the contracts signed by the players lost and those acquired. The highest possible compensatory pick is the 31st of the third round (91st overall). If a team has signed an equal number or more UFAs than it lost, no "Compensatory Picks" are awarded.
Under terms of the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in a year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.

The number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents up to a maximum of four. The 32 compensatory choices announced will supplement the 223 choices in the seven rounds of the 2006 NFL Draft (April 29-30). This year, the compensatory picks will be positioned within the third through seventh rounds based on the value of the compensatory free agents lost.

Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula.

Keep in mind with RFA, you can also get additional picks, but that is based on the tendered contract value and its level of associated pick defined as compensation back if another team comes in to beat the tender you offered.

RESTRICTED FREE AGENT (RFA): A player whose contract has expired and has fewer than four tenured years in the league. He may sign an "Offer Sheet" with any other team, but his original team has seven days to match any offer he receives. If the original team does not match the offer, compensation will be awarded in the form of draft picks from the signing team. The round and quantity of picks are determined by the "Qualifying Offer" made by the player's original team. If a RFA is tendered a minimum qualifying offer the compensation is the equivalent of the round in which that player was originally selected. If that player was originally a rookie free agent, no compensation is awarded.

do we get any

When the trade went down for Ricky there was a conditional pick I believe it was a 3rd, that would become a first round pick if he reached 1800 yards th enext year which he did. This is all off the top of my head but Im pretty sure its close to accurate. With Daunte there is no way they would have accepted a conditional pick because of the injury and no guarentee of him playing.
