Belichick does the same thing... They are using IR as a roster move as much as it is anything else. Vickerson probabaly wouldnt have been active much this season and cant really contribute on special teams, so they shelved him.

I think the other two have to do with injury settlements. I was under the impression it hurts the salary cap less if you put a player on IR and give them injury settlements instead of just cutting them.

I dont really care about Turk or Thompson that much but with Vickerson, even if saban really had no plans to activate him, i would rather see him working with the Practice squad and keeping in shape and getting some experience rather than sitting on his couch all season. Especially with what Kevin Carter said that he had a real upside and i think ending his season if he wasent really hurt is just going to slow his learning, and what happens if 1 or 2 guys go down? id rather have a guy who could potientally have a future with us than some guy we pick up from Free Agency

I guess you could say that. Teams don't usually carry more then one punter. If for some reason Jones goes down, we will sign a FA.
