I can't wait till defeats are a norm as in days of yore for this team. Oh yeah baby it's on the way, Just ask the 49 whiners if it ain't so! LOL
July 28, 2006
1st day, 2nd practice
Some notes from the second practice of the first day of training camp:
* This workout was not sharp and Patriots coach Bill Belichick didn't appear pleased. At one point, the entire offense ran a full lap around the field. Toward the end of practice, select players toed the goal-line and were instructed to do more running.
* Receiver Reche Caldwell dropped a pass and promptly hit the deck for 10 pushups, which drew a cheer from the crowd.
* Receiver Michael McGrew left the workout with trainers after apparently suffering an injury.
* In punt return work, the returners were Kevin Faulk, Ellis Hobbs, John Stone, Laurence Maroney, Matt Shelton and Willie Andrews.
* The practice featured a lot of work for the three-wide offense, which in turn, resulted in work for the nickel defense.
We'll plan on wrapping up the first day of training camp with one final update later today/tonight.
* Belichick smiled when asked about the old “Oklahoma†training camp drill that focused on one-on-one contact and tackling. He relayed a story about how he was speaking about the drill with Marty Schottenheimer and Bill Parcells two weeks ago when the three were together for a tribute to former Giants linebacker Harry Carson. Belichick seemed to lament the fact that the “Oklahoma†drill was no longer prominent in training camp. "We all did that," Belichick said. "You start doing it in high school, college. That was kind of the 'who is the man?' step up, 'who's tough?' who is going to hit somebody?' [drill]. Put everybody in a close box and you're going to have some contact. So let's see the pads crack."
