Inside Dolphins Draft Room

This is how I prefer to picture Grier, Tannenbaum etc when the fins are on the clock:

Much more realistic imo

Actually a pretty good article. I still have my doubts about the power structure and it working the way they say it does but good for Grier to realize Howard was worn out from the process at the combine the first time they interviewed. That says something about Grier...something positive.

After 10 years running college scouting you would hope that your GM could figure out that players are tired at the end of the day... but yes its certainly not the worst thing that has been written about our front office

Tho the idea that drafts will now be easier because they are now doing their homework on players troubles me - wtf were Grier and co doing for the past 10 years? Drawing names out of a hat on draft day? It would certainly explain some of our busts

Oh wow and here many at FH blame Mike for all the draft day selections! Are these alternative facts? Lol

Maybe, but then you add a little smooth Gase:

Sure at the start of the day... but by the end of draft weekend?

Tho seriously I do agree that Gase is our best hope of a decent draft

Good read, thank you for posting. Loved this bit about Gase -

"Adam was typing, didn’t even look up and he’s like, ‘Take him.’"

Seems like such a badass.

Hickey told the media he had full control aswell.... he didn't. I have no doubt that Grier runs the day to do scouting, but when it comes to the final decision? He is the third most important voice in the room

Considering most teams that interviewed Jonathan Martin said they had real questions about his love of football and passion which is why they said he dropped to us in the 2nd (when most were hyping him up as a 1st rounder) and Ireland clearly disregarded those reports and his own interview...this is a step in the right direction.

That might be true, but never underestimate him being the voice of reason in the room. As long as he is well respected by the other two (which he is), being the voice of reason is a powerful weapon in stressful situations.

Grier was a key part of the crack team that drafted Jonathan Martin, Dion Jordan, Michael Egnew, Chad Henne, Pat White, Clyde Gates, Dallas Thomas, Jamil Doughlas, Jordan Tripp, Caleb Stugis, Daniel Thomas, John Jerry,Will Davis.... to name just a few. In short? Adam Gase is the "voice of reason" in that draft room.

That's true. He has been here a long time (since 2000). What we don't know is how much the GM's actually listened to him or how many times they made decisions that contradicted his rankings. From the looks of last year's draft, I am not that optimistic in his skills. Another interesting point....he was a scout for New England until 1999. I'm not sure but I think they were a little bit better after he left.

Even I think this is harsh

Its true that we don't know what was said in the meetings, but good god if he was the lone champion of sanity in those front offices, bravely saying that 3/4 of our picks were **** - he better have spent most of the last ten years throwing files and chairs at his bosses
