I didn't see this posted, hopefully it isn't a rerun.

From D. Pompei:

With Dom Capers running the Dolphins' defense, look for Miami to play more 3-4 fronts. Last season, the team played the 3-4 about 25 percent of the time, and some expect that figure to double this season. Of course, that means Jason Taylor will spend more time at linebacker and less at end, but Dolphins coaches aren't concerned because Taylor played well at linebacker last season. . .

Sure makes me believe we need another big linebacker, like LaVar to make this thing work.

Taylor never looked natural as a LB last year. At least from what I saw. I know he played the position in college, but I would feel a lot better with another high caliber Lb on our team.

you guys think Taylor will really play LB 50% of the time? No way. I would figure he still has to be rushing the passer a large majority of the time.

Well, if we are in the 3-4... he will be at LB... because he cant play DE in the 3-4.

I can't see JT playing LB for many snaps. JT's motor is flat out and I can't see him playing at that intense a level if he is put at ILB and has to run all over.

He wouldn't play ILB... Lawrence Taylor rushed the passer 90% of the time and he played Outside Linebacker in a 3-4.

JT has to play linebacker, there isn't any way around it. That said, I think we would have alot more flexibility within the defense with a larger, faster linebacker like LaVar. I hope we get him, despite the potential problems, because it is the kind of risk that could have high dividends. I liken to Bellicheck going for R. Colvin, just hope that if we get Harrington he doesn't have that kind of luck.

I am excited to see what Capers will do. Man, he will bring it from different places and that will put an incredible amount of pressure on teams.

I agree Arrington is the perfect fit for our 3-4 D. And we must land him.

if that is the case dont be surprised wiht LaVar and Lawson with JT at the DE

JT cannot play 3-4 DE, he would have to play 3-4 OLB... JT is a pass rusher, not a two-gapping run stuffer

so then waht your tellin gme bowens would take his spoT?

I can see Taylor palyinf OLB. He has droped back in coverage many times and done well. If we run the 3-4 , he will play OLB, and be one of our rushing LBs. I think he will be great. JT is amazing!!!SR knows this!

No, our most likely 3-4 setup would be

LDE: Roth or Wright or Holliday
NT: Traylor
RDE: Carter

OLB: Arrington
ILB: Crowder
ILB: Thomas
OLB: Taylor

Assuming we get Arrington, if not then Crowder would probably play outside and Pope would be promoted to starting ILB.

3-4 DE's are like 4-3 DT's.

His motor is what makes him extraordinary as a linebacker. You know what it is for a DE to be able to cover a TE? Thats crazy my friend. And JT is all about crazy. Plus, like another poster alluded to, he'll probably be blitzing more than half the time.
