Jamil Douglas saw steady growth from a redshirt freshman and scout team member to eventual starter and all-Pac-12 honoree during his four-year career at Arizona State. Douglas consistently proved to be the most important member of the Sun Devils offensive line throughout the past three seasons.
Douglas is very much a draftable player, and should instantly earn a spot on a roster as a project at guard. His strength lies in his run-blocking, but held up well enough in pass-pro to translate over to a left guard at the next level. Despite having played his entire career at ASU in a zone-blocking scheme, he possesses traits which suggest he'd excel in a man-blocking scheme, as well. He could see himself progress into starter at some point, but for now he remains a project.

Douglas was a team captain for the Sun Devils in 2015 and grew as a leader over his four years at ASU. Douglas played left guard most of his time at ASU then moved out to left tackle his senior year to make room for Christian Westerman at left guard.
He's projected as a guard at the next level. At 6-foot-4, 307 pounds, he has an acute ability to pull well on running plays and get downfield with his athleticism. He is the first Sun Devil taken by Miami since Derek Hagan in 2006.

Douglas should be a solid pick for the Dolphins, but may need a year or two to fully reach his potential. Hopefully, the Dolphins can give him that time to develop before they are forced to rely on him as the every day starter.

It's a good thing we don't need immediate help on the oline and can wait for him to develop.

I wondered about this pick as well. Seemed like there were starter caliber picks at MLB.....

Right now he's probably no worse than Dallas Thomas. Of course our equipment manager would be no worse at guard than Thomas.

I like our draft quite a bit.

But this pick I don't like. It falls in line with 2 other lineman who didn't look strong enough. Jon Martin and Dallas Thomas.

He looks very good what he's asked to pull, and once he gets in space. And I'd imagine that's something this staff has wanted to do much more of since philbin got here.

And would we really want a guard or linebacker in the fourth round that had already reached his full potential? I'm willing to bet those linebackers everyone would have rather drafted will be better two years from now than they are now too. Most fourth round picks don't start from day one. I'm not sure there were any other sure fire day one starters selected after Miami selected Douglas.

if you watch him while he played lg his jr year he was pretty good. Held his own against Lenard Williams. you could tell he wasn't comfortable with the switch to lt his sr year. one thing is for sure, he is better than dallas thomas

People keep bashing Dallas Thomas, which is their right, but the scary thing is over the past two seasons he may have been the best guard on the team. The names Arkin, Jerry, Watkins, Smith and Colledge don't sound much better.

Yes. This is why guard has been one of our most glaring weaknesses.

I hate to agree here but I do. After watching some tape of his, specifically Junior year at guard, he needs a lot more power (even in a ZBS) and more polish in recognizing assignments. He is very athletic with quick feet and hands which suits him well when he needs to recover, but I don't see him prevailing against the powerful DL's of Buffalo and NY in that aspect. I do trust our FO and especially the coaching of Benton so it will be interesting to see his development but at this moment I do not see him as a plug and play starter unless he is a quick learner (which I have no insight on).

Plenty of mid to late round picks start and play well. It's just how many oline projects can we draft? It seems like we do that every year and after waiting 2/3 years we realize the draft report was correct and you can't polish a turd.

It's just that if Miami drafts an offensive lineman in the first or second round people say we're wasting good picks because you find guards and tackles later in the draft and if you draft them later people say they're tired of drafting offensive line projects. The only other options are to not draft linemen at all or draft sure fire starting linemen in the later rounds, which I don't think is that easy.
