It appears that the 2008 draft is stacked at offensive tackle. The CamRam plan may have been to load up at guard/center this year and go for tackle next year. There simply were not enough top tackles in the '07 draft. Makes sense to me.

There you go- instant quality offensive line in two drafts.

Is '08 stacked enough to where we don't have to suck to pick a good one?

I would have taken Doug Free in Round 4.

Try this scenario:

#9 Joe Staley
#40 John Beck
#60 Samson Satele

There ya go, instant LG/C and LT of the future to protect the blind side of your future QB.... all in one draft.

Bizarre analysis. There were 22 offensive tackles selected in this year's draft.

Joe Staley would have been a mega reach at #9. I loved our draft. Ginn will be our Reggie Bush. Staley does not give us the value that Ginn gives.

If we take a true value first round tackle next year we can put him either on the left or the right depending on his skill set and how Carey develops at left tackle.

Suddenly we have real talent and every spot on the offensive line, not just stop gaps.

ok people were complaining Ginn was a reach at 9, Staley would have been a MAJOR reach at 9 IMO

I still think we would have taken Levi Brown if he had been there over Ginn. It just so happened he wasn't so plan B ensued.

It was said by Ramcam that Ginn was #5 on their draft board, so i think they probly had him higher than Lavi, wouldn't be shocked if he wasn't though.

We didn't have any trade partners and Staley was coveted more by our staff than Levi Brown. How do you think we found Drew Mormino... we were studying so much Joe Staley tape. And that was admitted in the press.

Reach or not.... I'd felt better with Carey and Staley than Carey and Shelton.

We already know Shelton can't play LT. But, Carey can play both T's. So, Staley would have been an immediate upgrade over Shelton and potentially ended our decade long search to replace Richmond Webb.

Talk to me after the season when we live the reality of having not drafted ANY T's.

Staley was only a reach because he came from Central Michigan. Put him in a Notre Dame, Penn State or Ohio State jersey, he's Top 10.

I never heard one draw back to Staley pre-draft. He was more athletically gifted than Brown or Thomas and possessed better physical tools. The problem was Central Michigan, not Joe Staley.

I never heard of Joe Staley being "lazy" like Levi Brown.

When will people get over the small school label?

I would have taken Doug Free in Round 4.

Either guy was a solid value at that point, but I'm glad we wound up going with Soliai. Hopefully he can fill Traylor's shoes after next season, which is probably the soonest Free would have been ready anyway.

You may be right. I still don't think that the proliferation of tackles coming out next year would have an influence on the way we drafted this year. I think if Brown or Staley were available to us we would have picked them. IMHO

Food for thought.... while suffering one of the more lingering ankle sprains a player can have.... Ted Ginn can't play. Ted Ginn's game depends on SPEED. Sound familiar?

Or shall we start Daunte vs. Drew all over again?

My "reach" can play NOW. Can Ginn?

He said in a press conferance if there was a game tomorrow he could play
