Take this for what it is worth. Talking with some media buddies of mine, I was introduced to a couple of guys who I had never met. We were having a good time hanging out when one of these new guys ( call him Sven) begins talking about he was hoping his spring would be less of a headache than last year with the team doing so well during the season. I was a bit slow on the uptake since several of us were talking high school recruits for tomorrows big day.

After a few minutes I realized Sven was talking about the Dolphins. I sat and listened with Sven not knowing my interest in Miami and what he laid out regarding last year opened my eyes to things that make allot of sense.

This guy is not a reporter, but "gathers" data for the media. In any case what I garnered from his conversation was that the QB issue last spring literally had Parcell's teeth itching.

Myths about last year:

1. Beck was on the short leash to getting dropped

Truth: Beck was in no way close to getting dropped, the coaches were excited by his prospects. Henne was literally an opportunistic solidifying pick, not a replacement. However it according to Sven came to a head when early on the coaches noticed that Beck did not have control of the team in the huddle. The players were taking plays off in practice when he was under center, the consensus was they wanted the new not the old and Beck regardless of his efforts was not popular with the guys due to last years performance. Fair or not, many of them especially the new blood were not supportive.

His performance in practice early on had the staff in a fit. The Dropped passes in droves, lazy route running, poor snaps and botched line assignments, happen, but early on they were happening enough when Beck was in that several meetings were held to discuss what the problems were. Henne was to progress slower, but the players made it clear that they would rather go with the new guy.

Once CP was picked up, practice demeanor changed. The team was given clear understanding that the veteran would be the starter. After that the players didn't care about numbers two or three and it was at that point when Beck's practice performances took a big leap forward.

Sven explained how edgy things were around practice until the latter part leading into the preseason.

He also shared some info that Parcells actually didn't want to trade Beck and wanted to keep him in the organization, The investment of off season practice the coaches put into Beck was to get him a new start and get him into the new system. Bill however had to to deal with Beck as a liability due to keeping the team in synch. Sven found out that Parcells and company have been offered several deals for Beck, but the trades would not improve the Dolphins team (wrong positions being offered).

Beck will be leaving the Dolphins, soon for the right trade, but not because he sucks, or doesn't cut it as a Pro. It is basically a situation of him being the guy with no prom date. Sven is not sure how things will be this year during practice, but last year was pretty rough when trying to pick up tidbits for the media.

thats some interesting info dj, the name beck on this forum seems to generate really mixed remarks and thoughts. hope it works out for the best for the phins and beck. he has the tools and i would like to see him and henne compete this preseason. both have now been in the system for a full season and would be on fairly equal footing. i just feel you can't have too many prospects, especially with chad's injury history. look forward to seeing how it plays out

I agree history shows that pennington has never had back to back good seasons and he does get nicked up often and with r tough schedule next year i have a feeling that pennington will have problems if we dont get a decent offer for beck i would keep him if pennington did go down i would feel more comfortable with him as the number two as apposed to a rookie

I agree. I think that is something interesting to chew on. I was noticing some things like bad snaps, and blown line assignments even last year when Beck was QBing. Makes you wonder if players had a dislike for him even last year.

But, now that we have a new boss in town and this team is respectable, I don't think anyone on the team will screw around like that anymore.

And I too would rather have two young guys like Beck and Henne to backup Penny in case of an unfortunate injury or even to compete with him in camp.

Having depth is never a bad thing. And when you consider Flacco was third team in camp, imagine if they hadn't drafted him. Injuries and bad play happen.

If Penny gets hurt and Henne struggles we would be remiss to not have Beck if we had some rookie on the bench to turn to. Remember 2007 when we had that exact problem? Green went down and we only had a second year guy in Lemon and a rookie in Beck.

Unless we get at least a 3rd rounder or possibly a high 4th rounder, we should keep Beck. And even trading him then, would still be risky considering Henne is still unproven.

no thanks he is a walking turnover and his 0 respect from his teammates, these are facts, and those two things are things a qb can not be

I think Beck could have sucess in the NFL, but not in Miami. He just lost to much respect from his teammates, but a change of scenery my do him a lot of good. I would not be suprised if he was traded and became a starter elswhere, but not in Miami. I think he could easily get a fourth in a trade. His work ethic and accuracy will find a home somewhere. He needs to build some confidence though, because he seems really shaky right now.

Interesting, of course we really don't know how much is true, but I guess we'll see what happens. I for one think the guy's gotten a raw deal. Nevertheless, I hope he gets his shot, he's worked hard enough to earn it. I never bought into this ridiculous notion Beck had no talent, BP isn't the kinda guy that hangs on to players with no talent. There is one thing about the above post that bothers me, why would the players hold what happened last season against Beck? He was just a rookie who had nothing at all to do with the way the team played before he took his first snap, the team had zero wins before he started so why would his 5 starts come with any expectations whatsoever?? I would think the whole team would feel responsible for the awful season and not pin it on one player, especially a rookie! So I have to question the validity of the opinons of the first post based on that alone.

That didn't make me question the OP's dinner mate. Charisma, leadership and scapegoating go a long way. The third may not be fai, but if he hasn't got the first two there is nothing he can do to change the third and if people find him annoying, they may begin to believe it as well whether it is true or not.

Great thread. People will question its authenticity, but either way it is a great conversation starter and actually has me want to talk about Beck which I normally just add some type of beating a dead horse insignia on. This is actual news even if it is about old news.

I don't know the guy so I don't know if he is like this, but I wonder how much pull Jake Long has in there. If his opinion (especially as the number one overall pick) holds that much weight, and he likes his college QB better, maybe that could have something to do with it. Not saying this is the case, just throwing it out for conversation.

Sorry but I don't believe this BS story one bit. It was all made up and just another attempt at these diehard "won't die" John "Aflac!" Beck fans.

I just don't get you guys! :err:

Parcells tried to trade Sir Aflac! last year and there were "NO TAKERS"! Instead the "only" QB that attracted any attention in trade was Josh McCown.

Beck was the QB that Parcells wanted out of here, "not" McCown. But McCown was the only one teams wanted.

Now the fact that Beck is being offered "again", shows proof that Parcells can't stand Beck.

He wants him gone so that he can draft another QB to groom/compete with Henne....because Beck ain't that guy. Period.

If Parcells liked Beck, he would not be offering him in a trade (which no takers developed from it)...

The truth is that reports have come out that Parcells is in love with Pat White and is trying to dump Beck so that he can draft him.

Dude, Aflac! cost Cam Cameron his job....accept it.

....Henne is unproven? And Beck "is" proven....a proven fumble machine who looks as ugly as his play...

huh???? Dude, Chad Henne was the number 2!!! Sparano made sure no one doubted it. He said HEnne is the #2 QB. Only reason Beck was still on the roster was because no team wanted him. ONly McCown drew interest.

Beck sucks! Throws ducks! Fumbles and makes the sound of Aflac!!!!

There is a reason why teammates didn't like him...because he STUNK!

There is a reason why Parcells wants to trade him....to draft a "better" more talented #3 QB.

Parcells knows that Henne has no competition right now. Parcells likes competition. Aflac doesn't provide that. So Parcells wants to draft another one that will bring competition. Or at least can do some things that can help the team than merely provide water and gatorade to teammates....and he even fumbles that too I heard.

Beck is cuaght now in a numbers game, because we know the fins will bring in other QBs. But if the players took plays off what do you think it says about them?

I'm glad to know someone on this board has their hand so deep in BP's pockets. :rolleyes2:
