I like instant replay, i'd rather the right call then the wrong call. But the current system sucks.
I propose this solution. It is one similar to hockey. Have an official or team of officials review the play upstairs in a booth. To have to wait for the ref to run over and then stick his head in the little view thing takes forever. If there is a team upstairs ready to question the play then they can review it quickly. Keep the buzzer/red flag system and you have to still explain to the ref what your challenging. But the guys upstairs in the booth make the call. I think it will save a lot of time.
Also, as far as the challenges go, you should be able to challenge for as many timeouts you have. Theoretically it should take the same amout of time so why not be able to challenge if you can stop the clock anyway.
Keep the last two mintues up to the booth to challenge.
So in summary, you can challenge as many timeouts as you have, and the plays are reviewed upstairs and phoned down to the ref rather than having him review it.
