Thanks - I think this was posted earlier also.

Makes you wonder how many teams in the league have that similar "Check Cat" type of defense that Cowher drew up. And if most of them have it, why doesn't it work in stopping the 'cat?

Makes you wonder how many teams in the league have that similar "Check Cat" type of defense that Cowher drew up. And if most of them have it, why doesn't it work in stopping the 'cat?

Because just like any play that is designed to fool defenses, ((mis-directions, traps, draws and play-actions)) there are many variables. And once studied and practiced, the defense has to execute. The "Wildcat" single wing is designed to overload one side of the formation with more blockers on either side of the formation then there are defenders. Defenses are never quick to commit an overload of defenders to one side for fear of being trapped.

Miami's success using this formation is all predicated by how many different plays they can and often do run out of it which dictates the element of surprise.

It's all about timing and how good the offensive tackles and guards are at pull blocking. Speed and smarts are essential.

Cowhers designs work. Then again, who am I to doubt them. However, execution is the key to stopping it. :)
