The Miami Herald reports that the Fins are still 4.2 mil OVER the cap,
I though I read a thread here on fin heaven that says that we are officially
Under the cap?
Also has some interesting info on player bonuses/incentives...

Frerotte might be the next to go
If the NFL's salary cap isn't extended by Sunday night, QB Gus Frerotte might be the Dolphins' next cost-cutting victim.

The Dolphins paid dearly for their dedication to quarterback Gus Frerotte, a player they might not have by Monday if the NFL collective bargaining agreement is not extended.

Frerotte led a group of nine players who combined to earn incentives that pushed the team $9.5 million over the salary cap for 2005, an amount that will now be deducted from their cap for next season.

After cutting four prominent players Wednesday, including cornerback Sam Madison, the Dolphins are $4.2 million over the projected salary cap of $94.5 million for 2006.

If an extension is not done by Sunday night, the Dolphins will have to make further cuts. Frerotte is the most likely target: he is scheduled to earn $4.38 million in 2006 because of rollover clauses that increased his base salary.

The Dolphins can make other moves to get under the cap, such as cutting linebacker Junior Seau and restructuring the contract of defensive lineman Kevin Carter.

If an extension is completed, all of that would be moot and the Dolphins would be anywhere from $5 million to $10 million under the cap. They could then create additional cap room as needed for free agent shopping.

Frerotte earned $3 million in play-time incentives, according to figures from the NFL Players Association. Next was running back Ronnie Brown at $2.9 million, including $1.9 million in a one-time incentive that has become standard for high draft picks. Brown was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2005 draft.

So far, 7 different websites have said 7 different thiings.

As of now, I don't think anyone outside of the Dolphins Organization knows for sure where were at with the cap.

we are over by 4 something, I think that cutting Seau and redoing Carter gets us at the cap

this would put us around 10 million under with a new CBA and 15+ under if we cut frerotte

Unless Gus restructures, he will be gone with or without a new CBA. He isn't worth his current cost. No other team would pay even $1M for him, so there is not reason why he won't restructure.

I am guessing/hoping that this is why we save 7 whole million by releasing gus.

perhaps under the worst case, we could be 10 million under with no new CBA

we wouldn't get Brees but we could get some help with the secondary and OL

Yeah, we definately need a veteran corner to go with Poole, Daniels,
since Madison is gone.
And now we need a center ( to back- up, start for Hadnot) and a LT.

7 million? His base was 1 million, plus the bonus adds 3 million to the base. Its only 4 million after the bonus.

We could definetly get Brees with 10 million, however he'd probably be our only significant signing.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!:tantrum: :boohoo: :boohoo: :fire: :fire: :shakeno: :shakeno: this cba and cap stuff is driving me crazy

our salary cap page says Gus' base salary is 4.1

the Herald article says we were hit with an additional incentive hit of 3 mil

another article says we would clear 7 million

it seems to make sense

we wnt cut Frerrote until 11:59 sunday night

when its absolutely clear we wont have a new CBA by FA

if its clear we might actually keep him till we sign another prominant FA QB if we can

We also havent restructured Zach and JT yet - both of who have contracts that can be easilly redone. One way or another, those will give us sufficient cap relief as well. I imagine once we need the funds, the organization will approach the guys about restructuring the deals.

I am under the impression that without a new CBA, restructuring won't be worth it
