It's about the Browns draft but there's an interesting part about halfway through that talks about Manny Lawson and several other players not being a fit in the Browns defense.

Saban and Phil Savage are close and share a lot of the same philosophies. I know many people on this board wanted Lawson over Allen, but maybe this tells us that if he wasn't a fit in Cleveland's 3-4 defense, he probably wouldn't have been a fit in ours.

Three teams (Miami, Dallas, NE) with 3-4 schemes all passed on Lawson, so this tells me that teams probably didn't view him as an ideal fit for the 3-4.

I agree man and Lawson is nothing more than athlete that is very much a project. The Niners under Nolan run the 3-4 scheme and he will probably be utilized as a rush linebacker. I feel like he is far too raw and drafting him at 16 would have been a major reach. Jason Allen was the sensible choice and will play dividends in our revamped secondary.

I like Allen alot and think that not only his ability but his attitude make him a great prospect, but arguably,do you guys think Greenway will live up to the hype on him?

I'm starting to get weary about these Iowa guys because all of them seem to have great "technique" but they don't seem to effectively translate well in the pros. Their football program reminds me of my old high school team--at the time none of us where exceptionally big or fast but we where all coached well. This allowed us to play the games well and always be one step ahead of athletically more talented opponents, and in turn made our play look good. I can compare Roth to Greenway in that both share positives and negatives when describing their potential. So in my opinion Greenway will be solid but not return 1st round value. If I had to pick an OLB I would have gone with Bobby Carpenter, he's got it all.

It's very true, in fact, Lawson is a lot like Julian Peterson (in size and ability) which is another reason why we never even went after him (the main one being money though), but a lot of people on this board wanted us to get him...

In Saban's defense, Julian Peterson was a star for him in college, so...
