It seems like the only way he can catch a ball about 100% of the time is if he has to make a full extention with his arms to grab the ball.. He tends to have his drop when the balls are thrown toward his torso or lower.. I think he tries to body catch those too much or something.

I have brought this up before.

I think the reason is simple. When it is thrown at him he body catches. When the ball is thrown way away from him he is forced to use his hands which are actually very good.

He needs to relearn catching.

Took the words out of my mouth. Without even going back to the game film, I can think of a few drops where this is the case.

I saw this thing that Jevon Walker uses that has golf ball sized tennis balls in the palms of his gloves and it teaches him to catch with his finger tips. They should make Chris wear those. (Even though he needs to work on not catching with his body. Did I just make any sense?:goof: )

You are EXACTLY right. I have a love\hate relationship with Chris Chambers for precisely this reason. He has truely amazing hands, the problem is that he only uses them when the ball is not on target... In fact, I would go so far as to say that if the ball is thrown right at him (in the numbers for example) he makes NO effort close on the ball at all, he stands and waits for it to hit his chest instead of reaching out to close the distance and obtain possesion quicker. Sometimes this leaves room for the DB to just step in the vacant area where Chris's reaching arms should be and pick the ball off.

That's what drives me the craziest is that he doesn't use his hands when the ball is comming in to the body. But its something he has always done as long as I've seen him. Why would someone along the way not coach that out of him?

I am the exact same way. I am not saying I am an all-star like Chambers or anything, or bragging for that matter. But I play high-school ball now, I play WR and the easiest balls to catch for me are the ones that are high, the ones that require me to use my hands. Its hard as hell to catch balls when they come to your torso because you gotta use your body, and thats hard as hell.

Oh yeah, half my team calls me Chambers Jr.

Seems to me if it isn't a difficult catch, he can't catch it, if is a really tough catch he makes it every time.

Like perhaps he finds it rare for a QB to hit him in the chest (make your own jokes  )

But that's the point, just because its comming at your body doesn't mean you have to "use your body" to catch it. Most of the time you can reach out for it and catch the ball in front of you.

I played QB. I can tell you, the ball placement, speed, and "touch" make a tremendous difference on what is caught. That is JH's problem with the INT's that everyone is debating are his fault are not. Most of them ARE his fault. Even when the WR's drop them, it's usually b/c they are behind them, too hard for short passes, or a combination of both. Not much "touch" on his passes. Chambers and Co. weren't dropping too many passes last year b/c Frerotte had a much better touch on his throws.

He is so used to having to make circus catches because of poor qb play he has forgot how to catch balls with his body.

Did you watch any games last season? They were still dropping a ton of passes?

Chris is better at making the spectacular catch than the easy catch, no doubt. I just wish we were more capable of using his spectacular catch ability to our advantage. As much as you guys hate Fiedler, he knew how to throw it to Chris in the endzone. Simply throw it so high that only he can go up and get it.
