So as a die hard fins fan most of us are going to continue on staying with this franchise. This offseason brings up so many questions? Coaching staff, front office will be first on the list shortly after the season. The interesting part to me is how we handle free agency. We have tons of holes and not a lot of cap space. I'm not positive on the cap space I was hoping someone would know? But either way we don't have enough cap space for all of are holes to fill. So who do we cut? Who do we sign? Very interesting. Also it looks like we are going to have a top 10 draft pick. I for one am excited for this offseason. A lot of things are going to be happening and I'm staying optimistic, a good offseason could jump start are franchise and get us back on track were we belong. Finsup!!!!

We can definately make room, although thats just more holes to fill.

I think there may be some people getting off that aqua bus for good

The Bills annihilated us & they are the 3rd best team in our division

The Jets are no longer the jests, & the Dolphins have become Ross' muppet franchise, by his vacation home.

They have a very good coach and a WINNING QB, and an excellent Defense.

The Dolphins have more holes than anything else.

I wrote it earlier this season, & I'll repeat it.

If Fitzgerald was the QB here

both Philbin and Lazor would still be sitting pretty in their offices.

Cut Grimes ASAP

I want corners that can play on the LOS

You wanna play 10 yard cushion go somewhere else.

So we cut Grimes and who will be his replacement. If anything we need him to restructure say what want about him but he's our best corner.

i doubt he will restructure and Im not sure anybody wants to guarantee him more money

exactly, whether it was injuries or if he has lost a step Grimes is not what he was even compared to last year. with that said, we are really in a bad spot at CB. Outside of Grimes we have Jamar Taylor (garbage), Brice McCain (ok slot guy), Bobby McCain (5th round pick, ok in limited action), and Tony Lippett (converted receiver, total question mark). i think the one thing we can take away from the 2013 is we should not be so quick to create extra roster turnover. hopefully he will be open to restructure and we can bring him back, but i agree at $9.6m that is too much for what he brings to the table at this point.

2016 may be the year for Purge 3 thats what our new leader may come in an do with a bunch of these overpaid malcontents

You got to make the tough decisions. This team needs to be cleansed - and by cleansed I mean scorched earth and reseeded completely. This is not a quick fix. In terms of players under contract in 2016:

Quenton Coples is a sure-fire cut, with the Dolphins saving $7M with no dead money penalty.
Cutting Cameron Wake would save the Dolphins $8M with only $1M in dead money. That's a move, unfortunately, that has to be made.
Jordan Cameron would save the Dolphins $7.5M but cost $2M in dead money. Another unfortunate move but another one that has to be made.
Brent Grimes would save $6.5M but cost $3M in dead money. Considering declining play as well as his subhuman parasite of a wife that is a known team distraction (that the team is not happy with), that is also a move that gets made.
Greg Jennings would save $4M but cost $1.5M in dead money.

Other candidates for cap casualties would be Koa Misi ($3.7M savings/$1M dead money), Brice McCain and Earl Mitchell (identical figures at $2.5M savings/$1M dead money) and Jason Fox ($1.3M savings/$150K dead money)

Players like Branden Albert and Dion Jordan will most likely not get cut because their savings and dead money are about even, but this remains to be seen as we enter the transitional phase with the new staff and front office.

Cutting those 9 players mentioned above would free up approximately $43M in cap space, but accrue approximately $11M in dead money, that is accrued already on top of the $4M in dead money already on the books ($2.8M of that going to Phillip Wheeler). A 2016 cap number of $32M is not the greatest, but this is better than a negative cap number as the team stands right now. Look for the team to be very cost-effective when rebuilding in 2016 - or at least you hope they will be.

And just for those that were wondering:
Ryan Tannehill isn't a favorable cut until the 2017 offseason (and even then it's still a hit at $13M savings/$7M dead money)
and Ndamukong Suh isn't a favorable cut until the 2019 offseason ($19M savings/$5M dead money)

Suh's 2016 cap hit of a whopping $28M is a killer, with $23M of that being guaranteed money.

You restructure Wake. With a team devoid of leadership, we can't afford to be without one of the teams true leaders. Dion Jordan is a no brainer cut. Albert is an interesting case...he can't stay healthy, but we're devoid of talent behind him and he plays a premium position. Is it worthwhile to cut him, and spend a little extra money for a higher level FA LT? Or does it make more sense to pay a little extra money for a solid swing tackle that can start in a pinch? Either way it's probably costing you about the same amount. Koa Misi is an interesting one too, for some of the same reasons. Yes he can't stay healthy, but he's an above-average football player at a position of need.

What you're forgetting, is that we can save money re-working Suh and Tannehill's contracts. Roughly $18M with Suh which is sure to be exercised. That $28M killer hit becomes an affordable $10.5M. Tannehill's is up in the air, but if it was exercised between the two of them we'd have an additional $25M to work with. I'm also pretty sure that you're taking off cap space for dead money, when the figures are already taking that into account. What I mean is, you're saving $7.5M with Jordan Cameron on the cap. Period. The dead money is factored in. It's a cap hit of $9.5M - $2M in dead money. So your savings on the cap is $7.5M and so forth. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, but the cap space shouldn't drop from $43M to $32M because of dead money since it is already represented in the savings.

I wonder if Miami can afford Janoris Jenkins.

Jenkins is a good target and entirely affordable. Grimes cap hit this year probably covers Jenkins and a lesser guy for the #2 spot without problems in 2016. But there's lots of good CB's to choose from this year. His teammate Trumaine Johnson would add length to the secondary to matchup with bigger receivers. Leon Hall could be had on a shorter term. A reunion with Sean Smith would add size to the secondary. Patrick Robinson was a guy I wanted last offseason who is coming off a strong year, he would fit. PacMan is a POS, but still playing good football and could be had on a shorter term. William Gay I like a lot on a 3 year type deal who has years of solid production. Sterling Moore is another guy I wanted last offseason that has been great for Tampa and is very underrated.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't know that.

I was looking at merely the business side of it - numbers, dollars and cents, and not necessarily the team. I believe Wake is a strong, strong candidate for restructuring, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was cut and then brought back on a lower money deal.

I think Jordan stays on the team through training camp, just so the new staff can evaluate him...but we'll see. Hopefully he can turn into something.

If Suh and Tannehill want to restructure, then great, but I personally don't see Suh restructuring out of this second year of the contract.

I can't imagine Jordan is anywhere near football shape. Wouldn't be surprised if he's done with football for good
