Found this interesting and wanted to share. Stats through this weekend's games.

Young QBs - % of incomplete passes that were........

QB - Bad Throws/Drops
C.Henne - 30.8/ 15.4
M.Sanchez - 44.0/ 8.0
M.Ryan - 37.6/ 9.9
J.Flacco - 33.3/ 9.1
J.Cutler - 33.7/ 5.8
P.Rivers - 33.3/13.9
A.Rodgers - 30.2/ 18.8
B.Roethlbrgr - 31.9 /17.4
T.Romo - 45.7 /12.4
E.Manning - 36.4 /12.7

Stats are just that....stats. Some say they don't win games and some say that they don't lie. Obviously, many underlying factors go into these numbers. I, for one, am on record for saying that Henne will be a very, very good QB one day. The jury is still out on that, but thought this was interesting.

Also, many other stats can be seen here:

Ok, is this saying that 5.4% if Henne's incompletions are drops and 30.8% are from bad throws? If so, what are the other 63.8% of the incompletions? I don't think I'm this stupid, but I obviously don't understand. Please explain...

Sorry, it should read 15.4%, just fixed.

It is saying that of Henne's incomplete passes, only 30.8 % were do to a bad throw by him. 15.4 % were due to drops by the receiver.

It is pretty funny how since henne became starting qb, all long as the ball touches any part of a receiver it is considered a drop.

meh how many are drops due to bad throws? sigh...

Not sure what criteria is used to determine whether a drop is caused by the receiver or QB. Obviously, if you hang a guy out to dry over the middle and the hit causes the incompletion it shouldn't be a drop. But, everything else that hits a receiver in the hands should be caught in the NFL, IMO.

I would hope that these stats only count catchable balls. They are from STATS inc. who I think are pretty accurate. Bottom line is that as long as the stats are consistent across the board, for every QB, they are positive for Henne, IMHO.

I'm confused too. Roughly 30% of his incomplete passes are bad throws and 15 percent are good throws that receivers drop; that adds up to 45%....how do we categorize the other 55% of his incompletion's...well defended?

Id say, the other 55% are either Chad throwing the ball away, or well defended passes.

Jeez people. Go and look at the link provided and you will see how they break it down.

Pass Dropped 15.4 Poor Throw 30.8 Pass Defensed 15.4 Pass Hit at Line 4.6 Other 30.8 Intercepted 4.6

I looked at what Henne did myself yesterday because some people were saying how inaccurate the guy is:

Complete - 19
Drops - 4 (There was also a drop by Haynos, but it was thrown by Ronnie I believe.)
Bad passes - 4
Wrong Page with Receiver - 2
Batted at line - 1
Arm knocked while being sacked - 1
Defensed by DB - 1
Throw-aways - 3
Interference - 1

The interference and one of the wrong page throws don't end up in the official stats because the were brought back due to penalties.

I just didn't see it that much. There were only two really bad throws...the one behind Ronnie down the sideline and one to Bess when he was scrambling for his life.

In any case, he seems pretty damn good to me for his 5th start...

Thats always the rule. As a former WR in HS, i always lived by the rule that if i touched the ball i should catch it plain and simple.

I feel bad for Henne. I really hope that this season doesn't bring his confidence down. I hope HE knows inside that when the ball gets to the receiver and they just drop it, it's their fault, not his.

Henne has thrown 65 incompletions according to the statistics.

Type ............. Number .. Pct of Incomp ... Pct of Overall Attempts
Pass Dropped .... 10 ............ 15.4 .................. 6.3
Poor Throw ....... 20 ............ 30.8 .................. 12.7
Pass Defensed ... 10 ............ 15.4 .................. 6.3
Pass Hit at Line .. 3 .............. 4.6 ................... 1.9
Other .............. 20 ............. 30.8 .................. 12.7
Intercepted ...... 3 ............... 4.6 ................... 1.9

After reviewing these statistics, it is clear that the drops are not the reason for Henne's subpar completion percentage of 58.9%. Tom Brady's receivers are dropping 5.5% of overall passes instead of 6.3%. Peyton Manning's receivers are dropping 3.5% of overall passes. Matt Schaub's receivers are dropping 2.1% of passes. The point is that the number of drops is influenced by the quality of the receivers and the quality of the QB. Everyone except Patriot homers know that Brady is not as accurate this year as in the past, yet they were able to generate a passing attack. I believe the main difference was the performance of the offensive lines and that the game is still too quick for Henne to see enough of the field.
