Got this from PFT who got it from Sportingnews.

Some Internet hack has banged out for SportingNews.com an item that explores the question of whether the Miami Dolphins might choose not to choose a player when their ten-minute allotment during round one of the draft expires.
There’s nothing in the rules that prevents a team from intentionally allowing the time to expire. In such a case, the next team up can submit its pick, and so on. The team that passed has the ability at any time, however, to submit its card with the name of a guy who has not yet been taken.

Besides being the worst idea in the world, were still slotted as the number one pick therefore we will be paying number one money whether we pick 1st or 20th. And if we tried to say were not paying it then you won't have that player in camp let alone for the season.
Then to top it off we look stupid and so unprofessional, then we end up losing the possibility of signing some FA's in 2009 because why would anyone want to play for a team that tries to screw it's players.

Why wouldn't we just trade down? Even if we just got an additional 7th round pick, I see no reason of passing up any extra picks that we so desperately need.

we ask the player on the phone if he plans to hold out for #1 over all money.

if he is, we tell him he can keep sliding down and LOSE more money!!

at first, when a poster mentioned this a month back or so, i wasnt for it, i didnt
think the team passing could just go in at any time with there selection after
passing.

but if they can do that, then i am not against it at all, expecially if we cant get
a trade and we have no intention on drafting darren mcfadden.

Holding on to the pick sounds like something the freakin' Raiders would do. Can't we just ONE TIME draft like like a top-notch team without any huge reaches, bizarre picks, or off-the-wall moves that make us look stupid? It might work but also might make us the laughingstock of the draft (again) and I'm real tired of that.

Instead of trading down and getting more for a pick that "we dont want to use" we just pass on it entirely to save some cap dollars.....right, this is VERY LIKELY!

Well you can't, you'd have to select that player so then your theory would end or risk some else selecting him. No agent worth anything would give in to this, not one if he ever wants to represent a player ever again.
So now you select who, lets say we drop to 6, all the guys we wanted are long gone now we'll end up paying a CB number one money, or the 2nd best OT, maybe a WR. This is really really pathetic, just to save money that WE HAVE under the cap. We sucked more than anyone else so we won the right to pick first, if you don't want the 1st pick don't suck, bite the bullet, man up, whatever you need to tell yourself and select the best player for our team so next year were not in this boat again!!!!

No hope in HELL that BP or JI would want any part of this, and if any reporter would bring this up to them I'd want front row seats to watch the carnage, what a great pay per view idea. I could see it now - Don King annoucing this at a press conference.

Just take one of the Longs...this idea to just let the time expire is dumb.

You need two to tango. If NOBODY wants to trade, we are stuck.

Except then, the Dolphins risk some other team getting their card in for the player first, in which case the player more than likely would still get the same amount of money.
