The Dolphins have the oldest and youngest quarterbacks to ever lead the NFL in QBR.

Earl Morrall topped the league in 1972 at the age of 38. Dan Marino was just 22 when he was the NFL leader in 1984. His first full season.

Two other Dolphins have led the league in QBR. Bob Griese in 1977 and Tua Tagovailoa in 2022.

Correction... Not QBR, QB rating...

3 of those men led teams to Superbowls - some of them more than 1x (Griese, Morrall). Tuas in good company

Nice - interesting facts there SF. Tua’s in some pretty good company there. 2 Hall of Famers and a backup who nobody would have given a chance till he got his opportunity. Appreciate you digging that up!

Tua missed to many games for this Stat to count in my eyes.

Have to think Bob Griese probably leads in 1972 if he didn't get hurt.

Interestingly, Brian Griese led one year as well. I think that's the Shanahan connection. He is being given some credit for how well Purdy is playing.

Yeah the ‘72 team was going if Cleo Lemon was QB. I point out Morrall cause people forget he led the Colts to a 13-1 record and to the SB vs Jets + led NFL in passing in ‘68 while Unitas was on the bench. I don’t know why Morrall isn’t in the HOF

I agree. Talk about depth. You have Griese starting and Morrall as your backup.

Interesting stat my brother. Let's narrow the scope to this weekend. If Skyler could lead the league in QBR this weekend, would we have a shot at pulling a monumental upset?
Realistically, Thompson has to have his best game for Miami to have a chance. Obviously, other players need to step up.

I thought Thompson was decent against the Jets. But the Dolphins will most likely have to score more than 24 and maybe more than 30 to win.

In other words, it will take a few big plays. I don't know if a game management approach will work unless the run game is really on.

And when you look at Morall’s career to me it’s HOF-worthy. Led NFL in passing 2x w 2 different teams. Led 2 different teams to SBs. Came off the bench in another SB to pull out the win (Colts-Cowboys) and has like 25,000 passing yards which was the high water mark back then (like 50k is now). I don’t get it. All he did was take teams or help take teams to SBs

I think it's probably the perception that he was a great backup.
