Those are some stats I don't care to see, I damn sure don't find them interesting.

Those stats can be decieving. If you don't get pressure on the QB, we haven't, WRs are gonna get open. It doesn't matter how good you are.

Sean Smith is also #22 in catch percentage (52%) and #5 in passes defenses (6). So while he does allow the most yards per completion, he only allows a completion half the time he's thrown against, and frequently gets a paw on the ball. This points to his problem being in one of two areas - either he gets beat long or he gets beat on yards after the catch because he can't tackle. It's probably a combination of both...I've seen him trailing and out of position on long bombs, and we all know he isn't the best tackler. But you're right, the YPC number is troubling.

Vontae has similar issues but allows more catches (70%). But I think the number that drives both of their problems home (and should make us fans nervous) is the passer rating when throwing against these two. It is 94.5 against Smith and 88.5 against Davis (lower than Smith because of his one INT). NOT GOOD. In contrast, Will Allen was allowing a 49.8 passer rating. Much better.

You can expect our ILBs and safeties to continue to get torched by TEs. But now we have a new problem. Davis and Smith are REALLY gonna take their lumps...

Also, I'd like to point out that the problems we have covering TEs are going to be amplified in looking at statistics like this.

For example, let's say Ayodele is covering Dallas Clark, who makes the catch 15 yards in front of the line of scrimmage. Then Gibril Wilson misses the tackle, and Clark scores a 80 yard touchdown. Ayodele is credited with having given up a long TD reception, made much worse by the fact Wilson missed the tackle. So it looks a lot worse when you start looking at individual stats...they rise and fall as a unit. Just a few long completions/coverage breakdowns/missed tackles can make the YPC stat look a lot worse than it is on average.

In a nutshell, poor safety play (especially missed tackles) is definitely going to make everyone's YPC numbers a lot worse.

You know the Jests are licking their chops looking at this.... last time I checked it's hard to throw sitting on your @$$.

Sean Smith has done very well against some excellent receivers like Reggie Wayne and Roddy White etc.

Also I have noticed that quarterbacks often times look Sean Smith's way, but he has the receiver on lockdown, forcing the QB to go elsewhere with the ball.

That has happened A LOT !

Make no mistake, Sean Smith is a very good player.

I want to point out that you probably didn't change the snap count to all snaps which would make him like 4th worst but if you look he has only givin up like 12 catches.....what does this say?........he is getting beat deep and you know why that is? because if he gets beat deep to a guy like vincent jackson on a perfectly thrown ball and he has no safety help it goes against him.....You can blame our Safeties for not giving the CB's some help and our pass rush being inconsistent

edit-also us fans know what he is good for, we have seen him get beat from slipping or just being a rookie but we have also seen that this guy can shut down a receiver.......I remember when we played the jags in pre season and he abused holt and that other guy....ever since then he has continued to impress....he is going to get beat but don't take to much into an AVG that doesn't mean anything if you got no safety help

Teams have thrown at him 23 times with only 12 receptions for a 52.2 % reception ratio which is outstanding

You are 100% correct the safety play has been poor and a direct influence on the numbers...it's a team sport and what one does or does not do reflects upon others

Lets hope so but other than Wake and Jt that game we have shown a very poor pass rush this season

i gotta say...i never expected those numbers...i knew they would be bad....but that bad?

.

Speaking of passer ratings
Akin-155.8
Crowder-121.5

Time to replace 3 out of the 4 players in the middle
maybe in the offseason
