Interesting Tua Question

If I were the Dolphins, I’d offer him a low-ball long term extension this off-season for somewhere in the $30-$35M APY range. He can either accept, knowing he’s taking a below market deal for long term security, or he can bet on himself to stay healthy and repeat this season’s performance next year.

Either way, Dolphins win. If we lock him in on a below market deal, great. He’s already proven to be a franchise guy and the best QB we’ve had since Marino.

If he bets on himself, then spends the next season proving he’s a Top 5 QB worthy of an even more massive contract ($40M-plus APY), also great. We have a 25 year old Top 5 QB.

It’s win-win.

Guaranteed money is and will always be the big fight. Hell get a 5/200 but it may only be 65 guaranteed which is low for a QB.

Yeah this is spot on. Great post.

Thing is: I wouldn’t be surprised if Tua willingly gave the team a discount. Doesn’t seem like the type of guy to gouge us. Not saying he’s not gonna get paid — he’ll be paid handsomely — but something tells me winning is even more important to this kid. Might pull a Brady and willingly take below market value to keep talent around him and build a true long term contender.

One can hope.

Didn’t Bradley Chubb get 65 guaranteed? No way they go that low for Tua.
Depends how he finishes the season. If he demonstrates a good healthy outlook he’s getting 100+ guaranteed. If not, Grier isn’t reckless

This will be so heavily influenced by injury situation going forward that its really anyone's guess...

Reality is, Tua has pretty much set his stance on it, I'm playing football now, and whatever happens, happens... If he keeps up his play and maintains over a 100 rating, he'll get paid... If he gets hurt again, misses a couple of games and Fins miss the playoffs, he might be not get his 2nd contract from the Fins. Understandably so.

I am not talking about an extension til after next season. He might not want to either. Year 4 and 5 are the most likely to produce titles I believe, before an extension starts chewing up major cap space.

I mean I'm starting to really like Tua, but there would be no way I would give him that much due to his injury history. That is literally the only reason so you in love with Tua'ers better not attack me. I'll say it again, the only reason I wouldn't be willing to give him that much is because of the injuries

You pay him or he comes back to bite you in the ass

Top 5 money is likely gonna be the price

Salary cap is only going up

Like I said... He finishes the season without any further injuries with this level of play, they have no choice but to pony up really... You can get very far in this league with a top 5 QB that misses 2-3 games a season... It gets problematic when he misses 5-7...

I agree. I'm really loving this!!! I'm so glad this is the discussion rather than what the next possible qb in the draft could be for us. I'm really praying this kid can stay healthy and be our damn dominating QB for a long time...

The article seems to suggest Tua would be a free agent in 2024.

Unless there is a significant injury Miami will certainly pick up his 5th year option that should be around $25 mil in 2024.
