Interesting Value of Cleo Lemon

I was watching 1st and 10 (on Espn) and the analysists are discussing Michael Vick and whether he should be the Falcons QB next year. One analysist said that he believes Vick should not be the QB next year and they should try and get Jeff Garcia. To my surprise, he than stated that they might try and get CLEO LEMON for the starting job in Atlanta... Whats this guy thinking.. So not only is Lemon valued over Vick but Matt Shaub as well who will be high priced this offseason. With the way that guy was talking, we might get a 1st round pick and Vick for Cleo Lemon... From his lips to NFL Gms around the league.

Interesting, if true then I expect that Lemon may get that 2nd round tender.

LOL. Amazing. Well, like I've been saying, the guy's preseason performance have created buzz. Everyone's just waiting to see if he cracks under game conditions and in the two appearances he's made he was a cool customer. Now he gets to start and if he does well against Indy...let the bidding begin.

if this guy can really play, FORGET THE BIDDING... we keep him.. an exciting young qb prospect. havent had one of those in a long long time

as of right now, who's to say that shaub is any better than lemon... they both dont have much in-game experience but post superb preseason stats.

Chris, the last thing I'd want to do is trade him and have him come back and eat up our secondary.

LoL, I was thinking the EXACT same thing!!! If other teams think he's that good then there must be something to it, and for a team who hasn't had a good QB in a loooooong time why the F would we let him go? How much would it hurt/suck to trade Lemon for whatever and then he goes to another team and lights it up???

if he plays good, we mite not hafta waste a pick on a QB this year.. we can fix the oline, secondary, add depth to LB and Dline

If you can get a 2nd round pick for Cleo Lemon as an RFA, I think you do it.

I'm confident that Culpepper will be more than serviceable at QB for us and Lemon is like 27 years old already, would be set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2008...

I mean think about it for a moment. Let's say someone gives him an offer sheet as a 2nd round RFA. That contract will probably be good sized. When we traded a 2nd for Feeley, we had to give him a good sized contract. It isn't like some team could negotiate with Lemon an RFA deal that involves giving up a 2nd rounder and try and say at the negotiating table they just view him as a backup.

Nope. The contract will be significant. And in order to refuse the 2nd round pick, we'd have to match it. Forget Harrington he'd be gone by then.

We now enter the 2007 with Culpepper as the starter, and a high-priced backup in his prime that has a starter's contract. Can anyone say QB controversy? Every missed throw by Culpepper will be greeted with boos and calls for Lemon.

And when Lemon eventually plays, as always happens in those situations, every struggled game for Lemon will be greeted with calls for Culpepper.

You'd have division in the locker room, two unhappy QBs, etc.

It isn't even the same as having a situation like San Diego with Brees and Rivers. Brees established himself starter WHILE Rivers was obviously too wet behind the ears to play well.

If the Dolphins are not prepared to accept a 2nd rounder for Cleo Lemon they ought to swallow their pride and declare the 1st round tender. That would prevent a long term contract from being negotiated with any teams out there, and give us one more year to figure out if Culpepper really is washed up, and/or if Cleo Lemon is our starter for good.

Otherwise if we declare 2nd rounde tender on him and someone actually follows up with a 2nd round offer, the coaches should thank their stars that they traded Feeley and a 6th and managed to recoup the 2nd rounder we wasted on Feeley.

True but if you still have to address the QB situation which I assume you'd use your newly acquired or original 2nd pick for. That would put us back at square one but instead of having a QB we know was worthy of a 2nd round pick we have one we used a second round pick on and hope that in a couple of years he will be worth what Lemon was when we traded him.

I'd rather keep something of know value than take the 'cash' and invest an equal amount in a relative unknown.

Who says we have to use the 2nd rounder on a QB? Why not a 3rd, or a 4th? John Beck or Drew Stanton would be tremendous 3rd round selections at QB. Kevin Kolb would be a good 4th.

Fact of the matter is we've got departures along the DL to account for, holes in the OL to account for, and a lack of premium talent in the CBs.

With a first rounder and two second rounders, we can fill some of those holes with guys that could make an impact in their rookie seasons.

I mean imagine if we got someone like Levi Brown to play LT as a rookie, and then got Justin Harrell to rotate in at NT, and got a nice CB like Aaron Ross or A.J. Davis, or Marcus McCauley to help us at CB?

Or how about Leon Hall at CB in the first, then someone like Joe Staley or Aaron Sears in round 2, and someone like Harrell, Okoye or Pit****?

It just gives you a lot of multiples. At QB we'd be going in with a healthy Daunte Culpepper, and Joey Harrington, who started 11 games for us this year. Do I like Harrington? Course not. But I really think 2007 is Culpepper's year.

Yea but we still don't know how good this guy can or will be. I say if we can get a 2nd rounder for him we take it. Who knows Lemon could be a bust or a star..... If we are going to stick with DC for at least another year to find out if he was a "bust" then why not draft a young QB this year and have a year to develope him.

I believe so too but we have made lots of bad decisions at QB that my confidence is shaken
