Interview With New Hc Flores

As I mentioned in another thread, this isn’t all that different from the approach that led Gase and Philbin to jettison talented players because they had egos. It sounds great to say we want selfless players, not selfish players... it’s the Patriot Way... but it’s much more difficult to pull off without the backing of a handful of super bowl rings to keep the player ego in check.

The fact is that most of your most talented players will have massivee egos and will have a more selfish mentality as a result. So will Flores ship them off like Gase and Philbin did leaving a massive black hole void of talent on the roster?

Most Patriot Way guys try to bring this mentality to their new team, but it hasn’t worked yet outside of NE and away from BB. It’s what led McDaniels to trade Cutler in Denver and alienate his entire team.

Seemed like coach speak to me. Nothing else really expected. I just hope he does well.

Good post. The Patriots only got away with this because of Brady and Belichick.

I don't think it is as difficult as you make it out to be. Sure they will have egos but they can also put their team first. Trust is the key. Once Flores has their trust, it will be a lot easier to convince them to put the team first.

Right, but how is he going to establish trust when the team is basically admitting that they will be competing for the number one overall pick in 2020? It’s going to be very difficult to establish that trust as HC when a lot of losing is expected early on... BB won his first super bowl in NE in Year 2 which bought him the cred to build a truly selfless team for 2 decades after.

"Why did you choose the Dolphins job?"

"Because it was open and there's like 32 of these."

Ya that wasn’t the strongest answer. Basically just admitted the only reason he “chose them” was because they were the first to ask.

Hey, look at Edelman and Brady. Not as if they were dying to be Patriots. They were just dying to play in the NFL. That worked out pretty well.

Create a bunker mentality: "even the owner thinks you're a bunch of losers. Only thing you can do is out work every other team"
