Only a couple of days after he predicted that NFL teams would shy away from college coaches after Nick Saban fled the Fins for Alabama, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports that the Falcons are targeting Louisville coach Bobby Petrino.

While Pasquarelli reports that the deal isn't done, someone apparently hasn't told Petrino, given that he's already hiring his staff.
Petrino played this one brilliantly, keeping his name under radar to preserve his recruiting leverage if he stayed put.

On the flip side, Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey has made no bones about his upcoming interview with the Dolphins, which is the equivalent of giving up on any chance of convincing recruits to become Yellow Jackets.

They already "interviewed" Chan Gailey

"Gailey was the Dolphins' offensive coordinator in 2000 and 2001 before leaving for Georgia Tech.

"It was clear to me that they were in the process of gathering information and insight into organizational issues," Gailey said in a university-released statement.

"I appreciate that they asked to speak with me regarding their future direction.""

There was some hub bub about it not being a real interview just them asking him for advice, perhaps about Mueller? Some speculated it was about Cowher because Gailey and Cowher are friends but they didn't seem interested in actually hiring him to be the coach.

maybe he could replace MM for offensive coordinater?

i dont think gailey is our guy what does everythig else think seems his offense is always falling short. i live in GA and the yellowjackets are always a dissapointment to us.

Great....... Chan Gailey........ :titanic:

He is a coach that will take us right back to the dark ages.

He is unimaginative, extremely conservative and unwilling or unable to comprehend the act of making in game adjustments.

I admit I don't know enough about the NFL assistants we are looking at. I do know however that I would look for the one that is creative (different looks disguising plays on O and D), aggressive and willing to change things up on a moments notice in game if it's blatantly clear that things aren't working.

Gailey will not bring any of that to the table.

Gailey would be the best choice. He's coached 13 consecutive seasons where his teams have made it to postseason play. He coached the Cowboys 2 years and both years made the playoffs. When he was the offensive coordinator here, Wanny's teams won 11 & 10 games respectively going to the playoffs. He left to take the Georgia tech team, a team mired in mediocrity for many years and has taken them to bowl games every year. The people against his hiring give nothing but opinion & no facts and are falling in love with guys who don't have anything that compares to his track record. The guy is the "Anti- Saban": an upfront, tell-it-like-it-is guy who is knowledgeable. After he interviewed in typical Gailey style, he pulled no punches and didn't think the process was serious for him. Other coaches would be "mute or evasive" not Gailey. He's one of a kind.

Facts? Sure. He took his Cowboys team to 10-6 then 8-8. 8-8 is hardly what I would call tearing up the playoffs lol. Lost in the first round both seasons to fyi :D
he was let go that season for his largely unimaginative style and lack of consistency. Chan Gailey is not a step forward, its at best a step to the side, at worse a step back.
Good coordinator, good in college, jsut not a pro coach.

he cant even win his bowl games as a HC in college. chan is not or man and only takes us backward. his offense could not even score in the second half of the game on new years. he was shut down and his 13 years of experince couldnt even get into field goal range.

Wish him all the worst for his interview.

He would be very well advised to stay at Georgia, sorry to any G fans who think otherwise :)

me thinks you don't know much about chan gailey. chan was and is seen as a very creative and imaginative offensive mind. all of these reverse passes and double passes and end arounds and all the other tricks people are so impressed w/ now, chan gailey was calling all of those plays 10-15 years ago. remember slash? that was gailey's idea. he took a group of misfits in miami and turned them into a competent offense, in fact, the '01 offense is the best offense the fins have had in the last 10 years, and that was done w/ fiedler, a god awful o-line, a lamar smith who had turned into a pumpkin, and a rookie in cc as the leading reciever. you do realize that we haven't gone to the playoffs since he left. the great norv turner turned the offense, which was equipped w/ better weapons than chan had, to garbage. chan might not be the best pick, but i wouldn't be upset if he was hired.

I said imaginative and creative not "Mularkish".

In imaginative and creative I mean finding and taking advantage of mismatches, disguising plays with different formations, etc.

I wasn't talking about statue of liberty plays when talking about creativity.

Totally agree, we already have Meathead if thats the direction we want to go. I would be very upset if we hired him.
