Intro To Andrew Van Ginkel: 5th Rd

Another big ten, another big W. Great I think, but still need more OL and DL.

Did not know much about him, just saw a couple of video clips and there he looks pretty good. Im guessing that at least he will make it as a special teams player. We'll see....

Get ready to get Ginkelized!

:)

Dude has a knack of stripping the pig loose!

What linebacker role did he play at Wisconsin Badgers?

Sounds like he filled TJ Watt's role.

"When T.J. Watt declared early for the NFL Draft, Van Ginkel was given the opportunity to make an immediate impact for the Badgers.

Strengths: Nice sized frame with long arms. Lengthy athlete. Plays the run with an urgent mentality. Has shown the ability to set the edge and able to string plays out to the sideline. Has some bend as a pass rusher. Motor doesn’t stop when his first move doesn’t land. Has experience in coverage and has made plays on the ball.

Weaknesses: Has a nice frame but could stand to put on some bulk. Is he an EDGE or an off-ball linebacker? Can get washed out in the run game from time to time. Needs to continue to develop his pass rush arsenal. Has had injury issues, only about a half of a season as a full-time starter.

Summary: Van Ginkel is one of the more peculiar players in this draft class. Seemingly a bit of a man without a home—probably best suited as a 3-4 outside linebacker but lacks the bulk to do it full time. Best fit could end up as a big off-ball linebacker. Think Anthony Barr as a long, lanky, heavier than normal linebacker in an even-front with the ability to pass rush. Should excel on special teams."

He's the kind of pick the Pats make. He's the kind of guy who becomes a solid contributor and makes all the right plays and decisions and makes you a sound football team. That's how I view it anyways. This is a Flores pick. Only 1 penalty in 2 years. Quite the difference from the boneheads we've had in the past.

He's the unknown guy who makes big tackles in the playoffs on your way to the SB (in NE's case).

Going to be a nice sub package player when Flores like to call his cover 1 blitzes. If we can keep him clean he has an elite first step with great closing speed.

Said this in another thread. Pats draft players others don't and coach them up to be solid.

I think he'll be a great special teams coverage guy. Maybe even Larry Izzo good. That's worth a 5th round pick.

Seems like a guy like this makes Kiko very expendable after this year.
