IRELAND: Didn't feel like we needed a new starting quarterback

I don't know how the rest of you feel, but Ireland's act is getting tired, along with the rest of our front office. Everyone thought that bringing in Bill Parcells was a brilliant decision, but all it did was set us back for probably 3-5 years. All Parcells did was sit in his booth at Dolphin's/Sun Life Stadium with that disinterested look of his, and cashed fat paychecks. He is now appearing on Monday Night Countdown playing the "experienced GM/Coach's" roll and living off of things he did 20 years ago.

My main issue with Ireland is he is reactive and not proactive. He waits to see what "might" fall into his hands instead of actively pursuing players through the draft or free agency who are going to help build this team. Just look at this year's past draft. Instead of trading down he reaches for a Guard (Pouncey) which he hopes to convert to Center, thinking that just because his twin brother is a great Center for the Steelers that somehow his twin will also be able to play Center. Had we traded down, we likely could have gotten Pouncey later on, and possibly picked up a 2nd rounder, which we could have used to draft a QB like Mallett. Then we reach again for a RB like Daniel Thomas, who may or may not work out here. Thomas has looked pretty slow if you ask me. Other than bringing in Reggie Bush, Gates and Wilson, I don't see how Ireland has done much to improve this club. Just my two cents.

Who would have helped this team more this season? Mallet or Moore?

Also, which QB prospects are supposedly better prospects? This years draft class including Mallet or next years?

Do you draft one for the sake of drafting one, or do you target and go for a better option?

Do you spend a 2nd and a D-player for Orton? Or do you use that 2nd and a D-lineman next year to get a guy like Barkley or any of the any QB's who are better prospects then any 1 QB from this years draft?

Listen I wanted a new QB as much as any. I hated the drafting of Henne since the moment his name was called. But who should we have gone after seriously? If we drafted Mallet would he be starting day 1? Especially with the lockout? Trust me I was a huge supporter of drafting Mallet

Are you trying to just be good? Is your goal to hopefully finish above .500 and maybe sneak into the playoffs for a quick first round elimination?

Do you wanna be good or do you wanna be great?

Too be great you have to find that franchise Quarterback, until you do you are going nowhere that matters.

You summed it all up really, this franchise has been to stuck in "what is gonna help me more this year" mode, versus planning long term to win championships.

Ok now actually answer the question. Which draft ckass had the better QB prospects? This one or next years? Is Mallet a better option then the QB'S we can get next year?

Who are these franchise QB'S?

Dude you are only proving the point... You have NO IDEA who you can get next year... Who will declare... where you will finish... etc etc... An extraordinary amount of intangibles... So betting on NEXT YEAR is foolhardy at best...

When a consensus high level prospect is available and lines up with your need... You have to take a look... When that high level prospect actually becomes affordable and 'low risk' due to the way the draft board falls... You get serious... When that position is QB... YOU PULL THE TRIGGER. Period. End of story. It is blatantly OBVIOUS.

At the very least you give your people a year to work with and evaluate the kid while Henne plays... Then you can properly assess next year's prospects against what you got... when you should be assessing them... NEXT YEAR.

Ireland has put together a pretty good team... with the exception of QB. It boggles my mind it has been left unaddressed with a serious QB.

No you seem to be missing the point. Mallet was the only guy really Miami might have been targetting in the 3RD round.

If you don't feel he is a franchise QB do you pull the trigger just because you want to upgrade the QB position?

You can look and tell right now, is Barkley/Luck/ Mallet etc.... which one right now is the better QB prospect.

You don't take a QB or purchase a QB just because you want to. If you feel next year has better prospects and none this year are truly worth commitiing your franchise to you wait.

ABSOLUTELY... Unequivocably YES.. You do it, you feel good about it and you go home and sleep like a baby. Because NOBODY knows who is 'franchise' and who is not, when they have yet to take a snap.

Well you sir have a scouting job in any one of 30 FO's waiting should you choose to accept it... Come on now, neither you nor anyone else has ANY idea how this year will play out in terms of any of those mentioned and their development. But I can guarantee one thing... 6 QB's were taken ahead of Mallett and EVERY one of those teams thought they got a franchise guy... NOBODY KNOWS... The only way to absolutely make sure you NEVER find one? Is not to look... :bobdole:

Waiting is one thing we Phins fans are particularly good at and that's sad. it comes from years of abuse from inept FO's... Good teams never stop looking... EVER... Franchise QB's are 'discovered'... Almost never traded.. and before you say 'Drew Brees' remember that San Diego had Rivers waiting in the wings and they were not wrong... Rodgers was drafted when Green Bay had Favre... Steve Young acquired when Montana was the starter... Cassel behind Brady and now Mallett... and on and on...

So how is it that the team with arguably the LEAST amount of 'need' for a QB is not afraid to ante up a third... (A philosophy that is by your definition redundant)... While the Phins whose QB play can BEST be described as average... Do not???

Maybe Ireland thinks his mom was a 'ho.

People can have opinions about which class is better, there might even be a consenus about which class is better. It doesn't matter, until the Miami Dolphins find a franchise QB they should trying to identify and taking a shot at somebody every year....we have no years to waste.

Runningback is a throw away position with a very short lifespan for a player, to move up for a Daniel Thomas and let a Ryan Mallett(acknowledged by most as the arm in the draft) is not smart football.

Runnningbacks are a dime a dozen and there is almost always free agents available every year. We could have even kept Ronnie or Ricky if it meant getting a quarterback.

To make it worse, I have seen nothing from Thomas to indicate he is anything but a run of the mill RB. NOTHING.

I remember the first time I saw RW running against us in a preseason game (I think in fact it was his first game in the NFL ever wasn't it? Long time ago I am not 100% sure now)...I remember thinking before that game that our awesome defense would make a mockery of this guy that NO traded their entire draft for. The guy comes out and blows apart our run defense and is blasting away 5-6 yards a pop like if it was nothing. It wasnt all his OLine either as some might think, he was blasting, throwing defenders off him and juking them left and right. FREAKING AMAZING. When we traded for him, that first impression still stuck in my mind and the year he gained 1800+ for us was not a surprise.

Point is, I see nothing from Thomas right ow that says he'll be better than Ronnie Brown to say he'll be better than a RW.
