Parcells also wouldn't have taken a mobile tackle that has a "finessee" label on him like Jonathan Martin or a tight end with great receiving skills but blocking questions like Michael Egnew. Ireland, of course, was getting the kind of players Joe Philbin and Mike Sherman want to use on their more-mobile offense. But couple the decisions this draft with the speed from last year - Clyde Gates and Charles Clay - and you're starting to see where there's some separation between Ireland and Parcells. Taking center Mike Pouncey as last year's top pick shows Ireland's roots. But the larger picture is you're getting a better picture of just who Ireland is and how he wants to build a roster.

The days of slow, cornfed players that Sparano loved are over, Philbin wants speed and quickness on all positions.

You have to remember Parcells had a certain prototype that he preferred to draft. He "picked out his own groceries".

Ireland has a different mind state as our GM. He works with the Coaches to give them the best players possible for THEIR schemes. If we're running a WCO then obviously we're not picking up slow, strong players.

Ireland is first and foremost a Talent Scout and he's very good at it. Something i've always given him credit on.

I can back what he did this year in both FA due to cap space and his picks in the draft (I will eat some of my own words). Next year will be his true test when he has money to spend and he is on his own so to speak

Can't wait to see the full effect of this offensive transition on the field. It may not immediately happen this year, but if all falls into place, we could finally have an offense to be proud of for the next several seasons! I just hope we keep our line intact.

I think the Ireland/Philbin combo will prove to be way better than any Parcells/? duo!

Nice to finally step into the present and adapt to the game...parcells is too old school...philbin's team will be exciting!

I give Ireland credit for adjusting at LAST to the way football is play now. Philbin is really the one that wants faster, not so heavy linemen. But Ireland went with it and deserves some credit for it. Like I've said before. I don't like the way he did things before but I believe he had a nice draft this time.

Ozzy rules!!
