Ireland's "Plans" for Thomas

Yeah, I didn't perticularly like the way he handled the Zach question. He "reached" out to J. Taylor and J. Beck, bud didn't have the time to reach out to Z. Thomas? Please. That is the second guy he should've introduced himself to. Its about respect, and Zach deserves more than J. Taylor imo.

I didn't like that.

I agree.

"I happened to call Jason, I just wanted to reach out to him and say hello. I've talked to John. I haven't reached out to Zach."

well lets not beat around the bush...Zach is getting up there in years. I hate to admit it but its the truth. He sat out all last year basically because of a concussion and headaches. Some of you on here dont want Trent Green because of his concussion issues (and niether do I, in fact i dont like Green at all), but when it comes to Zach most of us dolfans want to disreguard the fact that Zach has a concussion issue and that hes getting up in years. Its like when i saw Marino's time coming to an end. I didnt want it to happen but theres no stopping it. Every player in this league has an "expiration" date and maybe Zach's is here.

I was really hoping that Zach would stick around for another year to teach a young LB how to play LB. I was thinking Beau Bell from Nevada. I think a young player being mentored by one of the smartest linebackers in the league could be a good thing for us in the future. I just hope Zach's got another one left in him.

I don't understand how they reach out for a 38 year old qb that had two concussions the past two years and not Zach. Zach might be contemplating about retirement, but atleast talk to him to see where eachother plans are. Him and Jason should've be the first two people he talked to.

Need. LB is a position which it is inherently easy to find talent. I say that relative to just the sheer number of them that enter the draft every year. Then in comparison think about the number of viable QB candidates for the system we wish to use. Right now, today, we need Trent Green, John Beck and Taylor. Zach might just be the guy who is left out in the cold. Honestly though, what do you guys want Bill "I can't remember a dam thing, or stop dribbling" Romanowski. (No malice what so ever to Romo there).

I don't think Miami will do anything to Thomas, he is too old and injured to trade, no one would take him, and we Dol-Fans would be back on the war path if they let him go or did him wrong.

I personally think that Ireland will speak to Zach behind closed doors and urge him to retire within the next few years and or take a pay cut due to his limited ability on the field.

I really want to see him back because we all know he can still play. The biggest concern is his health. If he gets cleared to play then I'll welcome him back anytime. I'm not sure how much he makes but maybe he'll take a pay cut to stay with the team.

Zach needs to stay. He makes it to the tackle and rarely misses them when he gets there. He is a significant help to the run, plus he is one of the smartest linebackers in the NFL. You must be smart if your the one reading defenses for the team in game time situations.

I think we should draft a young talented Middle linebacker and train him up the next 1-2 years while Zach finishes up his career with Miami. That way we are not floundering around for a MLB when Zach leaves and we will have a MLB who knows the system.

Zach's getting up there with age yet he's still the best LB on this team right now. You just can't replace that unless you sign a very expensive FA. He's the general out there on the field. Few have his smarts as a LB and if Junior Seau can still be playing at this level, this guy can as well.

The other side of this is.... maybe it isn't an issue about them wanting Zach back? They want him, case closed....sure he had a concussion and with the season going down the tubes so fast, why have him come back? We were out of playoff contention pretty early on, everyone knew that with all the injuries and poor overall defensive play.
So Zach isn't gonna play another ten years, so what? He played great when he did last season......a play that sticks out in my mind is against dallas where he broke up a long pass play to Jason Witten.... this guys tank isn't empty.
I'd love to see him retire as a Dolphin...him and JT are my favorite dolphins of all time. I hope he plays a couple of more years barring any further injuries. His wife naturally would want him to retire, but I'd be sick seeing him in another uniform for another team, same goes for JT. The way these guys have play, in good and bad seasons has been awesome.... Good with the media and fans....during the misery of 2004 and the nightmare of 2007.

I would like to see him play at LEAST one more year, a lot of people here have been saying they want to see him come back as our linebacker coach, the truth with that is Sparano, Ireland, and Parcelles have no allegence to him, they dont know him other that film they have seen and he has no coaching experience. If he plays one more year they will then see how much time he spends breaking down film and opposing offenses and then maybe Parcelles and company will say hey this guy can be an asset to young players, but right now they know nothing about his work ethic first hand and no reason to bring him on as a coach.

I agree with most of you in saying that he's up there in age.All good things must come to an end.Let's see what Ireland has in store.

its true though...sad, but true. all those concussions add up, i love the way zach plays but id much rather see him walk away from the game than to risk even more injuries to the head. i wish this dude could play forever, but would rather see him walk away healthy.
