ever since that Cleveland disaster, he LOOKS like an NFL QB.

Still young, knows the system...

just wondering.

Not sold

he didnt actually play that well this week, I was in the stadium watching, he didnt actually play any better than Gus did

Gus had an INT that wasnt his fault gilmore had the ball in his hands and the ball got popped into the air

Still not sold on sage

Depends on what you want him for.
Starter,no.
Backup, yes.

I previously didn't even think he was a decent back-up....but I have changed my mind.

I still don't think he has a future as a starter, but I want him to be retained as our backup. He has been clutch against Buffalo and the Jets when brought in in relief. That’s exactly what you want from your back-up IMO, someone who can come in cold and produce.

My ideal scenario next year would be to bring in a vet type…..off the top of my head I’d say Kitna, and resign Sage to be the primary backup and draft a future QB. Or, if we draft a QB high enough and think he can play from the start, scrap the vet, start the rookie with Sage and Lemon behind him.

Was it just me or were we running a version of the hurry-up for Sage?

I feel safe with Rosenfels coming off the bench as a backup QB, but I don't feel safe with him starting. The thing that I can't figure out is he plays like **** against the Browns, but he does fine against the Bills and Jets.

Sold on Sage? Maybe as a backup, but not as a starter. He may be a better starting option then Gus, with the way he can throw a deep pass, but Miami needs to get a real consistant starter.....we have had backups as our starters (Quality backups, but backups non the less) for too long, we need to get a consistant, starter this year....that should be priority #1.

Some may disagree with my on this, but sometimes a player needs to know his role and play his role. In this case. Sage needs to understand that he is a back-up QB. Like it was said here, he is a good back-up, can come in off the bench cold and perform. There was a thread concerning this last week, best back-up QB's of all time...Earl Morrell, Don Strock. These were great QB's, but they knew that they were back-up QBs, and there's nothing wrong with being number #2. Sage needs to accpet this...he can do more good coming in off of the bench thatn he can starting...imo.

I think you have to say that the jury is still out on Sage. He has a good arm, throws a beautiful pass and has a nice release. His long ball is very good. That said, coming into the game as a backup is not the same as starting. You really have nothing to lose so, psychologically, there's an advantage. But, when you are the starter and things ride on your shoulders - it takes a very different psychological effort to overcome that pressure. Sage clearly hasn't been able to do that yet.

A big part of being a starter is what happens between the ears - the ability to relax under pressure and the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.

I really think Sage needs to start the next two games - to see what he can really do.

That said, Sage has not proven himself to be able to become a starter despite throwing the ball, arguably, better than any starter we've had since Marino's days.

When I was watching the Chicago-Atlanta game last night, the announcers made an interesting comment about Grossman's success. They said that he did well, in part, because he had a chance to sit on the bench in the first half and study the 'D' I was wondering if this was a factor in Sage's success this (and last) year. It could be that he is good at reading defenses after some time watching them. When he started against Cleveland, he didn't have a chance to study them beforehand and suffered because of it. It makes me wonder if he wouldn't have done better in the second half. Not saying he should be the starter, but I would definetely like to keep him around if this is the case.

I'm gonna go against the grain on this. I think Sage with a year of experience could be a very good QB. He seems to be on the same page as his recievers all the time, especially Chambers. I have noticed that he is a slow starter, it takes him a couple series to get into the flow of the game, but that can be cured with playing time.

Dont get me wrong in saying this I'm not trying to say that Sage should be the QB of our future, but I really wouldn't mind him taking the #1 QB spot next year while the rookie learns the system, if we dont get a vet FA.

I kinda think that the Texans losing was a good thing for all the people that want Carr because I think that drops them to the 2nd pick. They will have to get Leinart.

I don't believe that Gus is consistent enough for a coach like Saban who, above all, demands consistency from his players.... Furthermore I am not convinced that Sage can't start and I'll give you a few reasons we need to spend the next 2 games finding out if Sage "smellin like a " Rosenfels can play consistently enough to be the starter next year.

1.) Sage has chemistry with Chambers AND Booker, he's brought us back from behind to win twice in the last 4 games. One of those being a comeback of historical proportions...

2.) People point to the poor outing in the Cleveland game.... Well, look at the stats, while Sage was a miserable 5 of 10 completions, 4 of 18 completions for Gus is nothing to brag about, you might as well throw that game out for BOTH QB's because it was terrible. Bad games happen to good players, see Vick last night.

3.) Unless we pick up a good veteran QB in the offseason who can start in a new system, we will be DRAFTING a QB. And with a handfull of exceptions, starting rookie QB's don't have good first seasons... With a Rookie on the bench next year we'll need to have a starter that is sturdy enough to play all season, Gus is 34 and has been knocked out of two games this season, and didn't start a third...

4.) Finally, starting from preseason to date, I have not seen anything that I would call "conclusive" eveidence telling me that Frerotte is consistently a better starting QB than Rosie...

that's my take.

I wouldn't mind starting Sage next year while we groom a QB for the future.

I had hoped Sage would show the stuff to be a starter, but he just has not. Good comeback yesterday by Sage and the offense, but I saw him throw up some risky passes yesterday that had me gasping for air. T

1. The completion to Welker was a beautiful throw that he dropped between 3 defenders, but it could have been a disaster.

2. An incompletion to Chambers was thrown too far inside, and Chambers was able to get a hand on it to prevent an interception.

3. Sage threw late on a sideline pattern that was picked, but the defender couldn't keep his feet in bounds.

Sage makes plays, but he still stares down his receivers and defenders are getting a good jump on his passes. Maybe he eliminates these bad habits with more playing time, but I would think that he's had enough practice snaps over his career to know not to stare down his primary receiver or throw late over the middle. Those are college mistakes.
