Tuff to compare to JT, as they did different things but, I can't think of anyone else in a debate. Your choice?

Jason Taylor is #1

I'd put Cam in a group with Joey Porter and Trace Armstrong tied for #2..

All great players in my opinion.. I don't see Cam Wake as a HOF'er but I put JT there.

Joey Porter? 2008 he was a beast (something like 17 sacks)

Apart from that.....

I think JT was a better overall player, but as a pure pass rusher, Cam may be the best. He has that one move where he is near parallel with the ground to go around the tackle. It's freakish, never seen anything like it

I always remember Joey Porter's first year and shaking my head every time I saw him on the field because of how stupid Cam Cameron was. He never once played him in the right position.

I would probably go

1. JT
2. Cam Wake
3. Trace Armstrong

I can agree with this maybe if wake was younger when he started he could have been better then JT but as it stands he doesn't have near the years of doing it

Here is who is after Taylor on our all time sack list. Wake should easily move up to second if he stays healthy.

Jeff Cross (59.5)—Defensive end Jeff Cross played for the Dolphins his entire career, from 1988 to 1995. He ranks second in franchise history with 59.5 sacks, and had arguably his best season in 1990, when he made the Pro Bowl with a career high 11.5 sacks, and added 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 60 tackles.

Trace Armstrong (56.5)—Defensive end Trace Armstrong played in Miami from 1995 to 2000, and he ranks third in team history with 56.5 sacks. Armstrong had perhaps his best season in 2000, when he made the Pro Bowl. That year, Armstrong had a career high 16.5 sacks, and added 7 forced fumbles (also career best), 24 tackles and 10 assists.

Cam Wake with 51.5

Doug Betters (43.5)—Defensive end Doug Betters played for the Dolphins his entire career, from 1978 to 1987, and he ranks fourth in the team’s history with 43.5 sacks. He had his best season in 1983, when he was a first team All Pro. That year, Betters had a career high 16 sacks, and added four fumble recoveries.

Wake has 51 already he is 4th

Jason Taylor and Bill Stanfill

it always amazes me that Stanfill's name is ignored in questions like this. He was a consistently superb player in college and pros, and was at his absolute peak during our Super Bowl years. For all the adjustments around here nobody seemingly wants to acknowledge that Stanfill's numbers came in a run oriented era, and within 14 game seasons not 16. The offensive linemen were allowed considerably more leeway in that era. Of course, so were the the defensive linemen but Stanfill was hardly a cheap shot artist or head slapper. He was lanky and agile with a variety of moves and great football instincts. Not quite as explosive as either Taylor or Wake but greater ability to alter course at the last second. Subtle dips. Many of his sacks were obvious from the burst but he also had tremendous reach and would grab the quarterbacks jersey in traffic for an unlikely sack.

As a kid I delighted to watch Bill Stanfill on every third and long play. Even when he didn't earn a sack you could count on consistent disruption.

Like Dick Anderson, Stanfill suffered injuries in the mid '70s that diminished his production and shortened his career. I guess that's partially the reason he's so unknown to younger fans. Terrific player. Certainly far superior to someone like Bob Baumhower, if you want a comparison to a more well known name. Obviously they played different positions.

You are right Awsi. Unofficially he had 67 sacks back before the NFL counted that stat. My mistake for leaving a great pass rusher off the list.
Before Jason got here he was the man as far as pass rushing the QB.

Thanks Awsi

This does show our age, he was the first person I thought of as soon as I saw this thread and then no mention of him until I got to your post, thanks. Saved me a lot of writing. LOL

Though they were nose tackles, Manny Fernandez (35 sacks) and Bob Baumhower (39.5) spent a lot of time putting QB's in the dirt. Not the best but they deserve a yellow ribbon or something.

I am hopeful that Cam still has a few great years in him ( and a few good ones after that ) given his late start. Guy is a beast and sounds as if he takes every aspect of being a Pro seriously.

Jason Taylor is 6th all time in sack count...not just franchise numbers, in NFL history...period. Cam would have a great chance at chasing him if he came into the league in this form several years ago, but based off rushing the passer alone...it has to be JT.
