Henne had pretty good success in Pre-Season with Daboll's Spread ... started putting up pretty good numbers?

Against NE he did fairly good with the spread. (NE gutted us with a hurry-up spread.)

Against Texas, we came out in the Spread. Ooops, Texans actually had a game-plan based on the old-Henne & new-Dabbol Spread. Both Inside-Linebackers shot the BIG gaps & got to Henne on the dead sprint. (Henne can't get it off quick enough like Bradey who will kill you if you do that.)

Miami was forced to revert to a tight formation like last year ... don't recall seeing the spread again.

Didn't watch for it, just remembering ... anyone notice if we ran the spread later? Surprised no one has commented.

Henne has had his best success with the spread ... is the Spread Dead?

I think henne is going to take some time , when ILB shoot the gaps there is huge gap behind them where some one should be running crossing patterns and slants.
I still believe orton move was in part because josh mcd ran the same offence at denver before being fired.marshall also had good success with it.Dabol wanted orton as he can then move
onto implementing the system with the Qb already there.

I also think he left NE before the current version of the open offense brady, orton run.He needs to run it and alter it as to what works and what does not. In a spread when you go no huddle you
need different skill sets all your guys have to be very smart . welker for example in a pure straight up offense will never have any success but in a offense where pure atheletic skill is second to brains he is real good.In the option offense if the ILB clear the middle run a slant or cross routes wes knows he can run the crossing routes and slants depending on CB leverage . Brady also know wes has changed his routes and where he is going .

Preseason - enough said!

I don't know what "spread" you're referring to.

If you're talking about the 3WR set, we used it plenty. I haven't finished charting the 1H, but for the 2H I did a quick count: we had 32 offensive plays, and 27 of them came with at least 3 WR. Lest you think this is limited to when we were desperate, we had 24 plays up until our FG to go under 13-16, and out of those 24, 18 were in a 3 WR set. 4+ WRs only came after, and only twice - and once was the ridiculous 4th-1 in our own 20.

Give me a few minutes and I'll give you a count for the 1H as well.

So, for the 1H: 28 offensive plays, 12 or 13 with 3+ WR (depending on whether you count a bunch right formation with Reggie Bush among the bunched up).

One interesting note is that they went with a much more 2-TE oriented offense after the Henne INT close to the goalline, undoubtedly to mitigate the pressure.

As to the blitzing LBs, it *is* interesting that the Texans decided to predominantly stick with their base 3-4 alignment against our 3 WR sets. They did generate plenty of pressure that way, although not that much was caused by the inside guys; the leader for pressure in the game for them was J.J. Watt.

Sounds good ... thanks for the stats.

Spread I'm referring to is when our OL is also spread ... if OL held out their arms could barely touch. Watch the first plays & you'll see it. I saw it alot in Pre-Season & NE.

After LBs shot the gaps ... Dolphins tighten up OL formation.

I'm not sure what the numbers say but didn't we have a harder time protecting Henne from the git-go vs. Houston? Also I wonder how much the lack of Bush effects a spread "look and feel", I recall in New Orleans they used Reggie as much a decoy as for any other reason, moving Bush out of the backfield creates an spread into itself. I think if we see a lot of Thomas we see a old look and feel offense which to me is a kiss of death for the Dolphins. They need to evolve to keep up with the league and also be able to cover our porous defense.
