I was listening to Sirius this morning and they were interviewing an asst. coach for the Jets and he was talking about how for the Jets it's just another week and with FA it makes it difficult to keep a rivalry going because players come and go so much...

The host mentioned how he has worked for both teams and he has noticed the same thing from the Jets, they have a hatred for the Pats, but the Fins is just another divisional game. When he worked for the Fins all they talked about was beating the Jets...

I know the last few years the rivalry hasn't been all that much, but I figured that was due to the fact that both teams have sucked for the better part of a decade....or are rivalrys really dead?

i think recently it's just that everyone wants to knock the pats off their perch. i know i hate the pats more thna i hate the phins now. didn't always used to be the case though.

I dislike the Jets more than the Pats. The Pats haven't really been relevant long enough.

pats haven't been relevant long enough? the team has had more success in their history now than either the jets or phins. they'v ebeen the best team in the league for almost a decade. thats long enough for me.

I can definitley tell it least from this message board that it does seem to me that the Dolphin fans hate the Jets more then the Jet fans hate the Dolphins.

But I think the Pats recent success has a lot to do with that. It least for the Jets simply because we are both Northeastern teams and we have the whole Bellicheck leaving the Jets to go coach the Pats and then the Mangini/Bellicheck rivalry.

Everyone is united in their hatred for NE and its winning through outright cheating, bogus calls and embarrassingly flagrant league favoritism. No one likes dirty players or cheaters including coaches, no matter what lip-service they may pay otherwise. So that does kind of dissipate the rivalry and resulting animosity between the Fins and Jets but I think more so on the player, coaches sides, than that of their fans. In perspective, it's only natural that everyone wants to knock off the top dog, especially one who uses underhanded means to get there especially considering that the Jets and Fins have both been relatively irrelevant since the 80s.

Not dead for me. This is always the most hated team in the league for me. If the Jets went 0-16 I wouldn't be satisfied !

Is this a joke? Ask Jet's players how they feel about the Dolphins. It's not that they hate the Patriots more, they want to win that game more that's all. Since they're the Patriots and that's a great measure of how you're playing.... but like I said ask them how they feel about the Dolphins.

I've never understood the animosity toward the Jets. It definitely doesn't feel shared. I've spent many summers in New York since '97, met tons of Jets fans, and I can't think of one who expressed emphasized disdain for the Dolphins. I tell them I'm a Dolphin fan and it barely earns a reaction. Then I have to chuckle, thinking of all the threads on Dolphin sites like this, wasted energy.

Pro rivalries are a farce anyway, maybe 1/1000 the passion of a college rivalry. Like the Jet fan posted, there's a regional aspect to the Jets/Patriots rivalry so it has more natural steam. Every supposed Dolphin rivalry is pure forced in that regard, 1500 miles removed. If we had realigned with Tampa Bay and Jacksonville, within years, or perhaps a decade, those games would have taken on markedly more frenzy than anything we've ever experienced with the northeastern teams. If you don't think so, you're a lousy handicapper.

The Bills just plain have sucked as of recently. The Jets and the
Dolphins seem to be fighting over scraps left over from the
Patriots being the top of the division for so long. So i think both teams are just fighting for respect in our division. That being said, we are the champions as of right now, so jets fans can go suck on that one for now. See you Monday night.......
Go Phins!

Agreed!...plus the jets have owned us this past decade with the Fins last sweep of them way back in 2003, then only 2 wins since them. I feel this is because our former FO's and coaches have weakened this rivalry. The past Dolphins teams of this decade were pretty much a joke. When a team dominates us like the jets have (which SUCKS) it does makes us (FINS) more bitter where as the jets feel confident that they will walk away with a Win. Damn u Pennington for being a jet lol

Agreed, I was thinking just the opposite, that the Patriots just won't go away.

It's more of a "wanna beat the top team" attitude with the Patsies. It's hard to start and intense rivalry with Pats fans because more than 50% of their fan base are new fans (within the last decade).

With the Phins and Jest, every game going back to the merger, has been tough and this rivalry has a lot of history. We beat on the Pats for a very long time and they have only started enjoying success as early as the late 90's. So, I will always hate the Jest first before any other team.

Beat the JEST!
