I was looking over some stats from last year and some things stuck out at me. Two teams that I never thought Miami would lose to when the schedule came out was Cleveland and Detroit. Ben Watson - 10 catches for 100 yards and a td, Pettigrew 4-74 yards and a touchdown. Not to mention what other teams have done to us. However Sparano and Ireland seem to be okay with who we have now.

I think we will have a great defense this year however the free safety position is the weak link on this defense. If we go with the same lineup as last year then we will be in serious trouble! Just curious what other fans think.

not so much a weakness over the fact that we are just young at FS. You couldn't convince me that there are any upgrades out there worth bringing in over guys like Clemmons and Jones.

I'm definitely expecting Reshad Jones to steal the starting FS spot from Clemons. I just love this kid, he has the "it" factor, always around the ball, hits hard and he has size.

Just let this kid play.

We are so much better at that position than we were 2 years ago I am grateful, not concerned. (Remember Wilson?)

I'm hopeful for Reshad Jones and his upside but I would have liked to see us upgrade with daniel manning. I don't know, this FO doesn't seem to have any interest in upgrading.

To be honest, the upside on Clemmons and Jones is higher than Manning . . . and I think they were considering Goldsen but Wilson has been such a stud out there I think they probably wanna see more of him and can deal with Bell's contract another year to find out.

How do you figure that?

This FO in it's first real chance with 100% control has upgraded our Oline and added Depth, they upgraded our lb'ers and they got a competant backup. They didn't destroy us cap wise this year or next, and they didn't mortgage our future away by trading away draft picks.

The regime does believe in upgrading just not the players and names that some people seem to want.

Oops, I think I might have misread. You were implying the S position not the team in general. I apologize. I am used to so many doom and gloom in here that I misread it. I apologize

IM not too worried. Reshad Jones has very good speed and makes plays. Clemons is an athlete but lacks football IQ. Ethier way im way more worried about our WRs, RBs, TEs and QBSs than anything on defense.

FS wasn't as much the issue in those games as ILB. Channing Crowder was targetted a lot by offensive coordinators and when they matched up the TE on Crowder they attacked. They usually ran off the safeties with deep routes or intermediate routes and cleared the middle of the field for the TE who was matched up on Crowder most of the time. And if Crowder was hurt it was Tim Dobbins...even better for opposing offenses.

I think Clemons coverage skills are good (not great). He's no playmaker but he's in position most of the time making the QB have to make a solid throw at minimum. From all reports so far in camp though Jones is making a very strong push for the spot. He's making big plays...don't know much about his consistancy or how well he's covering but he's making interceptions and batting balls down.

I really hope Jones wins the job. Every article you read about camp has a Jones/Wilson INT, deflection, etc. Im loving it

the entire secondary looks good to me, there is quality and depth. imo, RT and TE are much bigger concerns

Jones/Wilson have looked like the playmaking safety duo we have been dreaming about . . . but the preseason will help us figure out those coverage skills. Clemmons is a pretty good coverage guy, limits mistakes and he has the most experience. I still think he is the guy come opening game.

I'll tell you something..... All reports of trainning camps say something good each day about a guy we drafted (Jimmy Wilson), last time I checked he was playing FS position and I have this feeling he could be the real steal of this draft!!!!! If he continues this amazing trend of INT and deflected passes I think by mid season we could have an outstanding secondary with Davis, Smith, Allen, Carroll, Bell, Jones and Wilson.

Not really. I like the potential we have at the FS and we also got Will Allen back who is as smart as any D player we have and could EASILY slide into the FS position if we were in a bind.

We had the opportunity to upgrade at receiver, tight end, guard, runningback, and safety and we did none of the above. I'm not saying we had the cap room to get better at all of those positions, the problem is that outsode of MAYBE runningback, we got better at NONE of those positions. Mark Columbo and Reggie Bush are real upgrades over what we had at those positions last year??? Really?
Wer'e relying on rookies to give us significant improvements at big time positions of need which almost never happens. I mean i like Pouncey nd Thomas but are they going to be pro bowlers from day 1, hell no. Same thing for Gates to an even greater extent because of the conference he played in.
Piss poor job across the board, no real improvement outside of Burnett.
