Is it Down to these Five?

I think DT is pretty far down the list of needs. But they could use a rotational player. Maybe someone who can play both end or tackle.

I don't expect the team to keep Godchaux.
When I'm on a draft site, I can always get a good feel for how well/how little they understand the Dolphins when I see whether they list DT as a 'need'. If they start talking about losing Godchaux and how we need a replacement, and they don't seem to realize that he is a back-up now, I just chuckle and move along.

Maybe a versatile player like Basham would be a good fit, as someone who can move inside on passing downs.

Now THAT would work... Rousseau got downgraded by some here because a number of his sacks came when he was kicked inside to DT in passing sets. I never understood that thinking; to me... this made him even more valuable.

Our 'need' is at DE or Edge though... we've drafted DTs twice lately and both are very good players... drafting another would be looney tunes... or for 1940s football.

That's a good point on Rousseau. To win inside says a lot.

Still not sure I'd take him in round one.

I LOVE Rousseau and think he is the best pass-rusher in this draft. I know that feelings on him are mixed... The two criticisms that I see of him are either, 1) He only did it for one year and there isn't enough film on him or 2) He opted out and that shows he doesn't love football/has no character.

2, I think is ridiculous... he is training for his career and minimizing his risk. To me, that's smart. Plus, he may actually have COVID issues in his family . (I've had 2 die from my extended family btw, so believe me... I have no patience for this argument).

1, I think, is a weak argument too. He was absolutely dominant as a 19 year old player with a limited number of moves... God given size, speed and elusiveness... He'll only get better.

I'd take Rousseau in the top 10; I'd damn sure take him @18... even if we'd gone OT with our first pick.

I may be the biggest Rousseau backer on FH.

Pitts is picking up a lot of steam. I'm beginning to see him mocked top.5.

Casserly had Harris in the top 10, which seems very doubtful.
I was slow to acknowledge Pitts... and I think that had more to do with the fact that I'm not looking TE than anything else.

He does look REALLY good... but after watching these highly touted TEs underwhelm year after year... I've become pretty hesitant to get excited about them. It seems like there is a new one every year... lots of press... lots of screaming... then they get drafted and ... nothing. I remember all of the hype for David Njoku... or OJ Howard... or Evan Engram... or...

It's a trend, and to deny the trend because THIS TIME ITS GONNA BE DIFFERENT!!! is to be one of those loser gamblers, driving away from the casino in their 1989 Chrysler...

That's a great point. I thought Njoku was going to be a star.

To me, if you draft Pitts high you are targeting him like a #1 receiver. Otherwise, I think you are spot on.

Each year, it seems like there are one or two TEs that are pronounced to be "THE NEXT GREAT WEAPON"!!! These guys gets breathlessly touted in the same manner that Pitts is being described now... and most of them bust. Not some... not half... most of them.

I think a lot of the loudest Pitts partisans are guilty of wanting it to be true... just soooo badly... that they fail to see the trends. Hell, they refuse to see the trends... just like they did with an undersized QB last year... and an undersized WR this year...

"But he'z speshul," they loudly rant. "He'z so gud that we can forget the last 10 times this happened."

It's like the old Bullwinkle cartoon... "this time for sure!"

So... will Pitts be a star? Maybe... but the odds say, 'no'.

I guess we'll see.

Do you recall what round Waller was picked? Gronk was a second rounder. Kittle a 5th.

They are not going to pick a TE so all the Gators fans will be crying. Not when this team needs some elite speed at WR.
Smith is a better WR than Chase. He has better hands, separation, route running and work ethic. Remember Smith played special teams covering punts as well.
The only thing that makes this close is his lack of size. Thats it. But big WRS get hurt all the time. His upside far outweighs his injury risk.
