IMO, they are both VERY similar. I used to laugh at the thought that either of them was the Dolphins starting QB. After all, we did have Dan Marino. But, as time evolved, so did Rich Gannon. When Gannon played for the Vikings he was nothing more than a joke to any NFL fan. But, when he played for the Raiders that magical season (for him) he damn near broke Dan Marino's single season passing yards record. IMO, the Dolphins are MUCH better at the skill positions on offense than the Raiders were that year. We are stacked at WR, RB, and have one of the best offensive TE's in the league in Randy McMichael. Maybe we have a diamond in the rough with Frerotte, and just need to give him time to blossom. I distinctly remember not ever giving Rich Gannon a snowball's chance in hell of putting up the #'s he did in Oakland. Maybe Gus can do what Rich never did do and WIN the Super Bowl...this season.

I tried that once, I pity your avatar.

its possible. the difference though, was grudens offense and gannon's ability to master it. it was a perfect match between system and QB.

although gus knows the system, it doesnt mean he'll master it or that his skills will fit in manner gannon's did

Wouldn't you say that Gus has a definate advantage over Rich because he has studied Linehan's system for a few years already, as opposed to Gannon who was thrust into a new one? I mean, was ANYONE talking about Rich Gannon prior to his breakout season with the Raiders?

yeah but how many other times in history has this happened? we can draw small similarities to other teams and their seasons but it all comes down to different people and different circumstances. completely apples to oranges IMO. ok, maybe red apples to green apples.

Gruden was coaching in Tampa that year, but I don't know that they weren't using the same system still in Oakland.

I don't think that Gus has the arm that Gannon had. The physical tools are what seperate the two, in fact it is, IMO, what seperates AJ from Gus...That will come back to bite us later in the season...AJ is best when he is put in and plays...he's streaky and needs time to get comfortable. That is why he looks somewhat shaky sometimes...but Saban has seen both in practice every day and apparently made his decision...Back to Gannon, he just was a better athlete at this point in his career than Gus is right now.

At least Gus can throw a ball 65 yards, at least he has before.

Nah I said and it before and I fully explained it.

The difference is that Gannon was mobile and accurate on the long balls.

Frerotte in almost every way is leading a Fiedler lead offense.

Compare him to Fiedler that is more likely the right answer.

I am not knocking the guy, I was a Fiedler supporter, but many Frerotte lovers will now argue with me on that. All I know is that everything Fiedler got bashed for Frerotte is getting praised for or people are just looking past. Overthrowing the deep ball. Completing the long ball but not an accurate throw causing the WR to break stride and what could have been a TD is now just a long completion. Driving the ball down the field but being unable to score a TD and having to settle for a FG. Looking real good on one drive then like a bum on another. etc.....

To me, as long as points get put on the board I don't care how it was done.

yeah frerotte has no where near gannons accuracy... frerotte really has to get that in order or it will be a long year...

i mean he could turn it around, but i think its a better chance that feeley pulls a drew brees than frerotte pulls a gannon... usually by that point in a players career they dont all of a sudden turn it around and play better than they ever have...

You are right. Frerotte has some of the positive things Fiedler had, except he actually has a half-decent arm to be able to make more throws.
