He's not having a ton of success against backups. Yes, he had that one good play tonight, but he's more or less been pretty quiet. At a certain point, you have to start wondering why he's not showing more. We've got rooks flashing much brighter on the defensive side.

Yes, he had a difficult rookie season with a nagging injury.

But seriously, if the guy is going to be the star he is projected to be, I'd have expected to see some more by now. Some more flashes here and there. He looks...unmotivated? And quite frankly, not nearly as freakish as you'd expect someone with his measurables to be.

I've got two theories:

1) Qutting PEDs can be tough, depending on exactly what he was using. They can definitely take a toll on performance in the short-term after stopping.

2) He's having trouble with the mental aspects of the defense and his position.

By no means is he a bust yet and hopefully will turn into the star we're hoping for. Other thoughts on what's going on? I know many believe he should be a LB, that it would be a better utilization of his skill set. So which is it? Utilization/coaching issue, or player? Or both?

It looks like he hesitates when rushing the QB. Like he's worried about getting caught upfield on a run play or something. I haven't really seen him go after the QB with speed and confidence.

As a #3 pick he has to make an impact this season or we can talk bust.

Easy to question Jordan, especially after seeing what Clowney did against the first team Falcons.

What's up is that the FO took a nearly unique athlete suited for OLB and force fed him (figuratively and somewhat literally given the weight gain) the overloaded DE position, while what we have starting at OLB is jack sh**. It's almost comical, given how good this guy was playing in space at his natural weight and how consistently mediocre he is playing DE when all tangled up at the LOS, which is most of the time. I'd say that right now Terrence Fede could very well be a better DE than Dion Jordan. In a more creative defense we'd have two big, fast attack OLBs in Jordan and McCain with Jordan Tripp getting an even harder look at both OLB and ILB.

Another thought came to me a few weeks ago and I will throw it out to give everyone a good laugh. Could it be possible that he wants to be traded to Chip Kelly?? What if he had a secret handshake deal with his old coach and said he will lay down for a few weeks and drop his trade value, then the Eagles come in with a trade offer that would seem like a great deal for us. Since he hadn't been anything special a 2nd rd pick would probably be enough to get him.

To be honest I really don't think this is what happened, I just think we traded up and got the wrong player. I wanted Lane then and still do. I said when we drafted Dion that I didn't see the motor in college that would make him a game changer in the pros. So far that seems pretty spot on IMO.

He's a feast or famine type player playing a feast or famine type position. We'll need to see a 4-6 game window with the added muscle and year two progress to make a determination. Wake doesn't destroy tackles on every play, he has one great move and he has to play a bit of chess to set the tackle up for that move. Same deal with Jordan.

I think you hit it on the nose. In fact, when Miami traded up to get Jordan I started thinking the team would soon be switching to a 3-4 as that's his best fit. When asked, Jordan also said he preferred a 3-4.

I still don't understand why the front office won't play him at linebacker. You want to get your best players on the field and this coaching staff doesn't seem to get that.

I think if you are a player that is picked as high as Jordan was that he should be a guy that is more ready and prepared! And.the expectations are going to be higher! Nobody wants to see a guy that was drafted as high as he was to not produce! We expect a little more especially when he is in his second year and is getting owned by backups.! If this keeps up I would rather see him traded if that would even be possible at seasons end! Someone, may just. Get him for free if he is a bust!

What makes you think he's one of our "best players?"

You hit the nail on the head. Jordan is going to need to learn how to set up his man and be calculating in his attempts at the QB!!! Overall I'm not to sure Jordan will ever be more than a rotational guy who makes the occasional play, albeit perhaps a game changing play. I have my doubt about how productive Jordan can be at the NFL level.
