Joey Porter's fear factor is back.

Before quarterbacks snap the ball you can see them scanning the field for the Dolphins' premiere pass rusher. Offensive linemen are pointing him out, making their line adjustments to account for where this once again elite outside linebacker is on the field.

Often, a tight end or a back has to stay in to chip him. Porter has established himself this season as a game-changer, one of the few the Dolphins have on this team.

This wasn't the case last season. Porter was just another guy. But putting him back in a 3-4 defensive scheme, and moving him to the weakside, which is the spot he's played most of his career, has allowed this 10-year veteran to have a resurgent season.

i couldnt be happyer with how he is playing he is the heart of our D i could see people say he could go for MVP but his # of tackles is depressing

Iam happy hes the leader of this new identity, he is a great on the field example of how to play this game.

for a olb to be leadin the nfl in sacks is outstanding.. yes he is the best DMVP BABY

He's played well. Lots of sacks and forced turnovers. But he is way down the list of tacklers. Bell and Crowder both have a lot more on the Miami team. So I don't think he is even close to DPOY.

Could u imagine the Dolphins having the NFLs Defensive Player of the Year 2 our of the last 3 years.....thatd be awesome!!

I don't know about that. The person who is the most likely comparison would be the recently Redskined Jason Taylor. If you look at the numbers you would see that in terms of tackles from 2001 on they are close 468 for Porter and 465 for Taylor. If you look a little bit more you'll see Porter with 346 Solo Tackles and Taylor with 316 Solo Tackles. I guess the point is these guys are supposed to bring pressure on the QB more than being tackleing machines ala Zach.

A little bit more, In Jason's DPOY he had 60 tackles, with 13.5 sacks and 2 picks with 2 TD's. Again if you look at tackles Porter has 27 for the year so it does not stack up badly. We are only 7 games into the year so if he keeps up at this rate he could end up with 60-63 tackles and 20 or so sacks. Sounds pretty credible as a DPOY candidate to me.

i agree with you there,he is down the list a little bit in tackles, but i'll gladly take his league leading 10.5 sacks and the FF he's had and sit back&see how many more sacks&FF he generates with 9 games left to play...
