We won, but I expected a lot more. Getting run on like that....by an offensive line in transition is just embarrassing. The D-line did o.k. But the linebackers are far from pro-bowl caliber leave much to be desired. So the question is..........could Coyle's scheme be the issue or are the players the problem?

Awful tackles isnt the scheme

probably. a defense with this level of talent really shouldn't underachieve. just one game though.

Kevin Coyle makes every team look the same regardless if they have Peyton Manning or Thad Lewis at QB. The middle is almost always open, deep almost never is, and regardless of if its a run or pass the tackling is poor. The only time this defense seems to have a dominant looking game is when we are facing a QB so absolutely bad he can't hit the wide open wide receivers that are making their way across the middle.

I'm astounded by how frequently we blitz and how rarely we really get pressure. It seems every blitz is entirely predictable and picked up rather easily except for maybe a free blitzer that still gives time for the QB to make a throw to an open receiver.

Coyle's defenses are consistent, but unfortunately that is consistently average or worse, scarcely never all that much better.

Not trying to call you out, but just in general . . . . that statement is the biggest issue on the board today. I keep seeing it. The defense gave up 10 points and people in general just completely "missed" on their projections. Watching people put 35-10, "40 burger" . . . I just laughed at that whole thread. Washington has a solid front 7, we were on the road . . . we showed a little rust on the dline and got better closer to the end. Seriously I wouldn't stress it too much.

My prediction in VIP . . . . 20-16. Game played out about how I expected. Although the first half was worrisome.

Thank God someone with a reasonable point of view. If you expected a lot more you probably are in the boat of people who are EXPECTING 12 wins. I'm expecting 9 wins. I'm expecting to see one of the worst LB units in the NFL. I'm expecting to see a mediocre secondary with great (Grimes, Jones) and mediocre (McCain, Taylor, Aiken, etc).

We have two units on our defense that aren't great and you're disappointed with a defense that gave up only 10 points?

I'm disappointed in how AWFUL Tannehill looked. I'm a Tannehill fan, but he looked BAD. I frankly don't give a **** if it was the first game of the season, he was the only thing consistent about our team today and by consistent I mean, consistently bad.

This is something I consistently see from fins fans...a defense that gives up little overall and an offense that is PATHETIC and people blaming Coyle. Coyle has been our best coach his entire tenure and also the one who gets the most blame. Do you guys watch the same games I do? This forum can get frustrating at times.

They didn't look good that's for sure but at the end of the day 10 points against, two picks and a fourth down stop at the end of the game where last year was a sure to to tie...

Ironically, there are no "Tannehill sucks" threads on the board yet you could argue he was the most disappointing player on the team. I'll chalk it up to all the unworthy criticism he's received in the past . .. . but he has gotta play better than what we saw today, no question.

I didn't think Tannehill was AWFUL.

He wasn't great, but when he needed to score he drive down and scored. Not having a running game hurt the offense more than a couple bad throws from the qb.

It was am encouraging game, he looked deep alot and he'll hit quite a few to Cameron, Parker, Stills this year.

AWFUL was A. Luck today. He had 5 dropped INT and was inaccurate.

What I liked was how good he was on the 2 minute offense. He was throwing darts on that drive.

Wish Miami would play like that every drive.

I expected more from the offense. That drive where RT fumbled and was recovered by Wash 50 yards down the field was ridiculous. We were at the 3 yard line!
RT had two throws that should have scored TD's. One of them killed Simms. The other was a wide open Cameron who would have scored if he didn't have to dive for the ball.

Defensively, Coyle's scheme against Washington reminded me of the 1983 super bowl. Undersized DE's getting bowled over by hogs playing physical ball.
Our LB's were jogging and trailing the play because they didn't want to take the punishment.
He finally went to a 5 / 2 on running downs because we only have two LB's that can play. Against Cousins that will work, but when we start playing better teams, we will be in trouble.
Coyle had a bad plan, but his hands are tied at LB. I guess he was hoping that it would be better. It wasn't and we were exposed in game 1.
Not sure what the answer is, but bringing in Vigil and probably Hull might be the solution going forward. We might be looking for a veteran LB as well.

Special teams won the game. Long punts and the Landry KO return.

Sorry, I don't see things the same way. How is the offense supposed to score at all when Washington holds the ball for all but three plays of the first twenty minutes of the game? Yes, I realize there was a point where the Dolphins O could have gotten a first down, but a single three and out shouldn't doom the offense from getting a chance to get rhythm the entire game. That's what the defense being extremely bad did for the game today.

There are worse defenses in the league, there are teams like the Bucs that give up 21 points in 5 minutes, but not being amongst the worst doesn't make Coyle good. For 3+ seasons I've seen Coyle have his teams give up first down after first down for the bulk of a half to such bottom feeder QB's as Mike Glennon, Thad Lewis, Geno Smith, and now Kirk Cousins. His defense's absolutely constant inability to get off the field regardless of who they are playing severely limits this team's offensive potential. Our offense shouldn't have to play every drive like its life or death because a failure will result in another ten minutes of game clock getting run off. I've seen Kevin Coyle's defense almost without fail give momentum back to a down opponent by letting them answer nearly every score our offense makes. Again, limiting our offensive potential by forcing them to play with their backs against the wall.

This team has a .500 record in his tenure not because the offense has held back his all world defense, he's been as big of a culprit in the mediocrity as anything else.

Lazor probably needs to go more uptempo if he decides to stay in this shotgun formation he loves so much. We had a running game today, Lazor forgot he brought it on the plane the first 44 minutes. Somebody must of told him they found something on the bus that could help.

But its unlike Tannehill to be so careless with the ball, so like the dline, I'm just chalking it up to rust and I think both will get better. I'm just impressed with how we finished the game.

Tannehill was horrible today. He overthrew 3 first downs, and a wide open dion sims who suffered head trauma just trying to reach out for a terrible pass. Our D buckled down in the second half by not using a wide front and solid coverages

No call out taken. I live in the D.C. area and listening to the radio you here the fans and former skins (Cooley, Doc Walker and others) stating that they firmly believe that they out played the Dolphins........and it did appear to be the case. That I did not expect at all and I knew we would not blow them out. The final score is most important thing I realize; however, You can't possibly be fine with the way we played.

Tannehill was garbage- and I'm a huge Tannehill guy. But he was disappointing today. He needs to be MUCH better.
