Ladies and gentleman, after being a student at the University of Florida for the past 3 years I have been accustomed to winning and tremendously talented players. However, just down the road from Gainesville, about an hour and a half south is the University of Central Florida and all they rave about is their running back Kevin Smith. Now I know that the gators have a higher player being drafted than the knights in Harvey going in the mid first round. However, in regards to Smith, I have had several opportunities to watch the kid play and he has talent. Many may say that he doesn’t have great up and down speed but the kid has talent. Some may say he played in a bad conference and it doesn’t show much about him, but he performed at top tier level against Texas.
Regardless, I think the kid has talent and even though we are somewhat deep at running back, you can never go wrong with another r.b. in the draft. Looking at the past, many good if not great running backs are taken later in drafts. Yes, Adrian Peterson was taken early and I do agree Darren McFadden is the best running back in this draft, the past shows us that the good ones come in later rounds. Curtis Martin was drafted in the third round, ruddi Johnson was the 100th overall pick and Willie Parker wasn’t even drafted. Now these guys are/were good, but what holds us back from taking a potential superstar in the league. I think that Kevin Smith will begin to be spoken about in the late second to early third round pick. Why not snub him at the second of the second round picks? I know there are glaring needs on other areas on our team, but why not take a player that has tremendous ability and brings great things to the table. Let me know what you guys think and if so where we should take him if we do and if we shouldn’t at all.
