Nathan Jones came through strong last season and had a couple of good games.. He still very young (26) however he was just the nickel back but I am wondering if he will have a bigger role in '09 with Goodman gone.. I hope he pans out because I really like him and think he has potential..

Thoughts ?

You have a point. He performed respectably last year. I guess it's possible he can start, but after him, Jason Allen, and Will Allen, there's two more spots open at CB, which will no doubt be supplemented by two rookie CBs or one rookie CB and a cheap vet, judging from the Trifecta's unwillingness to pay big $ to CBs. In other words, Jones will have an uphill battle to crack the starting lineup.

when he played/filled in he actually had spurts of promise.... i liked him applying pressure at times too. we'll see how he can come out this upcoming season. maybe this can be the season to really proove his value and worth for the team in what he can do for us.

you made a good point, and i pumped with it.... hopefully he works out better than we all expect

I remember seeing him last year making INT after INT in training camp, but that was against john beck...

Yeah he was excellent rushing the passer as well. Im pulling for the guy personally. He id pretty good against KC as well.

He looked good last year during the preseason and played decent in his few appearances during the year. I do like that he appears to be more of a hitter than our current corners, so it would be nice if he did step up...

I'd be fine to see him as a situational player in Dime packages or strictly as a corner blitz type of thing.

If he were to see significant playtime back there then to me that means our secondary would have to be pretty weak.

he will compete with 2 rookies for the nikel back. I like him, he's played well. I see him as a possible starter when Will Allen leaves next year, reminds me of Surtain as a Rookie

I really liked Jones' contributions as a nickel back. His quickness allows him to be an effective pass-rusher. However, outside of covering slot receivers (a trait I think that led to Jones keeping the job when Jason Allen was healthy enough to return to action) I don't think Jones is a good coverage corner on the outside, and he doesn't seem to have the jumping ability or the natural size to play bigger than he is. Larger receivers would be able to take advantage of him IMO, and he woudl playing outside of his element if he started. however, I wouldn't be disappointed if he remained the team's nickel corner.

I could see the FO being comfortable with him back there and shore up the ront seven's pass rush to make sure of it.

they must compete. everything is resolved on the field.
having said that , I see only one corner with the potential to be a shut-down guy
unfortunately, he's been a long time in the making & hasn't hit his stride
this year Jason Allen will be the man or he will be gone @ the end of the season

meanwhile, we'll draft another corner ( Utah's Smith ?)
