It appears Reshad Jones is ready to turn the volume up on theNFL.For two years I heard about this mythological playmaking Miami Dolphins safety, a ball-hawk who roamed the secondary of the practice field like Pittsburgh’s Troy Polamalu, making impact plays during practice. But I sparingly SAW IT.That practice reputation earned Jones the starting free safety spot last year, but he struggled early, eventually got hurt, and the Dolphins defense tightened when he got demoted and replaced byTyrone Culver. But Jones did gain a season’s worth of experience, and flashed at times in 2011, a season where he contributed 67 tackles, two sacks and an interception in his 12 starts.

Turn the page to 2012, put Jones in the hands of defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle, one of the NFL’s most respected secondary coaches, and he flashed that type of game changing ability ALL offseason.

Jones said the biggest point of emphasis he made this summer was working on “taking better angles out of my breaks out of the backfield,” which is what led to offensive big plays like the 99-yardWes Welker touchdown the Patriot receiver scored in the 38-24 season-opening loss last year.

I hope Coyle can get this guy playing at a high level.

COyle does have a reputation of getting good play out of his safeties. I hope our secondary steps up this season

He made Nelson a great player who doesn't have half the potential Jones does.

Jones will be a probowler. Book it.

I remember that Patriot game. I remeberlooking at Jones and shaking my head. Yes, he was supposed to be a great pick for us. I hope very much that Coyle can take him and make him solid, game in and game out.

Reshad mentioned taking better angles and i think that was his real problem last year. Making big plays is great but if your out of position and then take poor angles you give up big plays. Not a good thing for our last line of defense. At least he is aware of this problem so there is hope he corrects it.

I have to ask, what makes you say this? What tangible reason? Reggie Nelson was a 1st rounder, and was easily one of the best safeties in college when he played... Jones? Not so much. Nelson is more athletic and before Coyle had a fantastic rookie campaign.

Now, Wilson and Crocker... those are two players that Jones has more potential than, and Coyle was able to get a lot out of those two, so I'm hopeful... but Nelson? He's a fantastic specimen who seemed to have some weird mental block.

My beef with Jones is that he has the stones to make a big play, but not the rare football instincts to know where the ball is going to be thrown at...not all the time. He´s athletic and fearless, if Croyle can teach him to react using football savy, I think he could be great...otherwise, he´s a big play against waiting to happen!!

For 2 years Omar Kelly has been hearing about a hyped 5th round draft pick? C'mon man. How can you say with a straight face you believed he roamed the field like 1st round pick probowl safety Troy Polamalu.

Jones has turned out to be a solid late round pick up who has the potential to be a great late round pick up. Lets see how he fairs in SS role.

Jones is nothing special. Horrible football instincts, bad angles and no smarts. He is the exact type of player Miami has had an abundance of in this decade of irrelevancy.

He was pretty bad last year, but instincts is something he does have. He has actually excellent football instincts and is a great tackler. But he's a really dumb player and needs someone to keep him in check in the back end. He has no range and takes terrible angles too. Thats why I think Coyle is pairing him with Clemons, whose the complete opposite of him. Clemons has massive range and takes decent angles, but not a lot of football instincts. He will help counter the balance with Jones.

did omar really say polamalu with reshad jones??? wowzers...i like jones but he needs to communicate better and he needs to take better angles to the ball and not blow assignments...he's got ball skills and instincts though when it comes to the ball...a nose for it...and he's a hard hitting son of a gun...a lot like yeremiah bell but with much better ball skills...not dependable though yet...i bet he leads the team in ints though
