Is Ricky Williams quitting last year the best thing that could've happen to this team?

because Ricky left...we had a bad season...gone are Dave, Speilman, Fiedler, AJ is third string, we got Saban, Linehan, 1st rounder Brown, better offense, etc. etc.

Now Ricky's back...he's cheap....we can keep him for a few years or trade him.

My answer...as hard last season was on the team and the fans...the miami dolphins and better for it.

It certainly seems that way. Ricky was being overused in the "wad ball" mode. Ricky leaving created the downward spiral from the get go. Now to get him cheap and for 12 games makes both sides happy. I think Ricky is ready to go and prove to the world what he is best meant to do.

Come to think of it. You have a legitimate point. Suppose Ricky played and we win 9-10 games last year. Just short of the playoffs as usual, but then we're most likely stuck with Wannstedt STILL, and i cant imagine Spielman going anywhere either. Many of the personnel in the front office would have remained. Who knows where Saban goes from there. Not that i'm thanking Ricky or proud or happy about what he did to the team, but it could have helped us escape that era of Dolphin Football we wanted to escape from oh so badly.

This question has been asked a million times over. Yes, it quite possibly could have been the best thing to happen to us. Not that Ricky is some kind of savior, because i'm sure he didn't have what was to happen following his retirement planned out in his head.. or did he?

I think we all owe Ricky a deep debt of gratitude for what he's done for us. I would like too shake his hand. Wonder if he had planned it all this way.

Oh Yeah

Definately, I think that Ricky's retirement caused a chain of events that lead to a better overall organisation top to bottom.

With that one move he exposed a lot of ineptitude that was covered up by two years worth of exceptional play on his part.

On any other team, you lose you marquee player, you find ways to adjust and the coaching staff and GM show what they are capable of doing with their personell. What we saw was a totally unprepared organisation that paniced and spent away our future on retreads and failed prospects.
