2004 Offense:
Qb: limping AJ Feeley; terrible; fired by Saban
FB: Darrian Barnes; rookie - no training camp
RB: Lamar Gordon; fno training camp - fired by Saban
RB: Brock Forsey; no training camp - fired by Saban
RB: Travis Minor; inactive by Saban
RB: Sammy Morris; best RB on team - injured for half the season
LT: Injured Damion McIntosh
RG: Taylor Whitley; terrible - fired by Saban
RT: John St. Clair; ok; - fired by Saban - Upgraded with Vernon Carey
WR2: Marty Booker - no training camp
WR3: Wes Welker - rookie - no training camp

Offensive Coordinator - Chris Foerster - rookie OC; concentration problem; never practiced the 2-minute drill. Fired by Saban.

No practice bubble - lots of missed practices due to rain.
***********

Somehow with all of these problems... with Daunte Culpepper, Joey Harrington, Ronnie Brown, Vernon Carey... the 2004 offense averaged 3 more points per game... than Saban's 2006 offense.

This team is scoring a touchdown per game less than last years team, which had a 28th ranked qb in Gus Frerotte. The team also had to learn a brand new offensive system.

Saban has been slow to identify and fix problems. If Saban can't fix these problems soon (ie. Fire Mike Mularkey), we will be looking for a new coach for 2007. Maybe Jim Bates is available? Maybe Don Shula can come out of retirement?

I will say one thing, Dave drafted Eddie Moore (everybody else wanted the STUD Anquan Boldin), he gave up a number 2 for Feeley and a number 3 for Lamar Gordon.

Nick has given up a number 2 for a guy who is a PROVEN playmaker in CPep, a number 6 on a guy who was 3rd overall and a full time starter in Joey H, another number 6 to get rid of Feeley and get a guy with tons of upside in Cleo Lemon and a 5 on a guy who has shown tons of talent in Manny Wright, but is emotionally troubled (unfortunate for Nick). He drafted hits with Crowder in the third, TD in the 4th, Ronnie is a star, Matt Roth looks to be a future star on this line . . . Jay Allen is gonna be a stud IMO, I like Hagan, Toldeo has great potential . . . steals with Vickerson and Evans, got Vick and Gibson . . . I mean . . . as of right now, Nick is trying to fix a mess that was left by Dave and is success last year has put crazy expectations on this team and him, he is in a tuff spot . . . I do feel this team will turn it around and be a playoff team in the next few years, but as of right now . . . Wanny was worse . . . no question. U forget the defense he had? a Prime JT and Zack, the best secondary in the AFC, huge DT's up front. The talent level given to Dave was much better and he brought the team downhill.

Dave Wannstedt drafted Carey, Hadnot, Chambers.

with Dave wannstedt, we went 10-6....yes this is Saban's 2nd year, but we always finished above .500 with Wannstedt.

This thread is a joke.

People are actually on this board vouching for dave

wanstedt.

Enough said, I should not even be posting on such a board.

you are misled my friend . . . Dave inherited a MUCH better team than Nick has. Imagine getting JT, Zack, Madison, Surtain, Bowens, Chester/Gardner . . . . before there primes, I mean Nick didn't have close to that. Dave was givin the keys, he couldn't drive us to the promiseland tho, Nick had to deal with a team that was just in disarray w/ no picks to work with.

LMAO Dave was here 5 years and the 3 players u named was Carey (should be a solid Tackle in this league, but not a Stud . . . he was a first rounder and Dave reached) . . . Hadnot (servicable, but nothing special) . . . and Chambers who has been here for 5 years or so and shows signs of potential but is possibly the most overrated receiver in the league. Come on man, u didn't do Dave any favors by listing those guys.

Name another coach with 7 pro bowlers who didn't make the playoffs . . . . case closed.

Spielman traded a 2nd round pick for Feeley and a 3rd round pick for Lamar Gordon, Wannstedt had lost his GM powers by then so he was not at fault... it was Spielman. When Wanny had his GM powers he brought in Ricky, Seau, Ogunleye (Wanny was the only person who gave him a chance) Sammy Knight, etc. Don't get me wrong, Wannstedt did a lot of bad to this franchise as well but Feeley and Gordon were not his fault.

Ummm, I don't buy that . . . Wanny veteod the Boldin pick and wanted Eddie Moore and that was in 2004, he had power man, and I'm pretty sure he was consulted and had input on all deals. LMAO u bring up Ricky?? The man who cost us 2 NUMBER ONE draft picks, and played only 2.5 seasons for us and left the team for one year and suspended for another . . . was way too much to give up for any player.

Ricky was lived up the draft picks in 2002 alone. Whenever Ricky was on the field, he lived up to it. I agree with Eddie Moore, what you said about Chambers, Hadnot, and Carey. We were going to be and should have been a legit Super Bowl contender and division winner. Yes, Wanny's coaching cost us games but so did Jay Fiedler (who was having his best season ever prior to injury), that piece of trash Ray Lucas, Oronde Gadsen's injury what turned out to be a career ending. After the Denver game we had to play without our STARTING QB, and TWO starting WIDE RECIEVERS. Ricky lead the league in rushing, JT in sacks and well the Minnesota and New England losses at the end were despicable. I don't know... I just miss the days of being in contention of playoffs and division even if we did end up just blowing it in the end. I'm done arguing man... you win. We gave up too much for Ricky and Wanny killed this franchise.

Ogunleye is another . . . I mean Miami tends to keep its star players until they get washed up . . . Keith Byars did his thing, the verdict is still out on Surtain and Madison, tho both as previously stated are past their prime IMO.

Ogunleye was traded...it was needed because he couldn't work out a deal with Miami (probably knowing we were going to blow chunks in '04 anyway) and that David "Roids" Boston broke his leg, in term we got Booker.

Surtain, the same thing, it was contract. We got Matt Roth  or Channing Crowder  for that pick.

And Madison, besides getting old, sucked in our system.

It was worth it AT THE TIME, but now when we desperately need it we're left crying.

I saw Sam Madison make a pick against Bledsoe last night too :shakeno:

Wannstadt was a notoriously bad drafter. He was less effective than Jimmy Johnson.

Spielman's 2004 and 2005 drafts have turned out alright, in hindsight.

Saban/Mueller's 2006 draft hasn't contributed much to date.
http://www.miamidolphins.com/history/alltimedraftchoices/alltimedraftchoices9.asp#2005

ps. Eddie Moore was 2003. Spielman controlled the 2004 draft, and was still here for the 2005 draft.

He may have been here in 2005, but Nick ran that draft (everybody knows that). And the 2003 draft may have been the worst draft of all time. No first rounder, Eddie Moore in round 2, Wade Smith in round 3, no fourth rounder . . . Tolver in round 5, a nobody in round 6 . . . and wow Yermiah Bell in round 6 as well. I guess u can get lucky every once in a blue moon, but man that was easily the worst draft I have ever seen.

LMAO at 2004 draft . . . he traded up for Carey, he had no 2nd or 3rd rounder, he got an injury prone Will Poole in round 4, Bua and Hadnot later on and Pope in round 7, its better than 03, but just the fact that we had no 2nd or 3rd rounder is just pitiful.
