I don't get many Dolphin games on TV so it's really hard to evaluate OLinemen on NFL.com's game channel. I was just curious as to how good of a center Seth McKinney is? Is it good that we re-signed him? How should Dolphin fans feel about this?

Most people hate him and never wanted to see him in a Dolphin Uni again. I feel that he is a very average center and that Saban re-signed him as a stop-gap until we can find C-Pepp a top C through FA next year or the draft.

Like I said yesterday to this ? NOOOOO:shakeno:

Do you mind me asking why? Is he slow off the snap? Is he bad in pass protection? Does he allow those A gaps to get plugged?

What's the scouting report on this guy?

He get's pushed around a lot, I was hoping to get Trey Teague:eek:

I really wish there was some way we could get Nick Mangold in the draft, I have a feeling this kid will be great...the only thing is however, with so much talent in this years draft the #16 overall pick is way too early for him... I believe he will be a late first rounder, or at worst very early second...:shakeno:

He is average at best. He played better last year, but he is still one of the worst starting centers in the league.

Here's my take. He is quick and does a pretty good job getting to the second level. I like his effort and he improved quite a bit under Houch's guidance. But he doesn't handle power players very well and needs help going up against the top DT's in the league.

He does get pushed into the backfiel alot, due to an obvious lack of functional playing strength (which is somewhat surprising since he has good weight room numbers, weighs 310, and is quick). A big, stong NG lined-up in the A Gap will kill him if Seth doesn't get Guard help.

However, Seth is tough (Pasquarelli called him tenacious & smart), and he's extremely athletic. When he played Guard in his 2nd year, he did an unbelievable job leading the sweps & screens. He was able to get out in front of the RB's & onto a Defender incredibly quick. The NE game in NE really stands out in my mind. He also shuffles his feet very well in pass protection, regardless of what position he's playing

Based on intelligence, toughness, attitude, athletic ability, & still being a very young player, I'm hoping he continues to improve and becomes a reliable starter for us. He does have the tools to get there.

Very few centers in this league are in the Mawae mold. Not every O lineman is going to be an all pro. Would I have like to see us get an upgrade at center? You bet! But these other guys were way too expensive and we have other needs. At least we know what we have in seth. Maybe coach houch can coach him up to the next level.:dolphins: :dolphins: :dolphins:

Having a complete line assembled and available as early in the offseason as possible is always an advantage. If they can gel all the way up to and through training camp and through preseason it can be as beneficial as anything. Just a thought.

I wonder if we'll see Hadnot stay at center and McK at RG ?? He had arguably his best year at RG, although last year was not too bad..as was mentioned, he still gets pushed around a lot...it's like he takes too long from the snap up onto his legs...by the time he is stablized from the the 5 point stance to the blocking position, a good NT is blowing by him ??

McKinney is not as bad as people think. His problems are technique based more than anything. Yes, he doesn't anchor well, but that is more hand placement, not strength. Don't forget he did a good job of getting out on linebackers the second half of the season and he seems comfortable finally making the line calls. He'll never get to the Pro Bowl, but he's good enough for now.
