I don't think Grier is slick enough to fool everyone, especially other GMs tuned into things. When's the last draft you saw him do something completely out of left field or secretive high in the draft? Even when mocks don't get the player correct, they usually get the position.
- Last year, several mocks had Verse (a few with Barton, 1-2 with Chop). When he was off the board, Grier stayed on edge.
- In 2021, most had Grier taking a WR, with Chase being the most common pick but a few listing Waddle or Smith.
- In 2020, QB was obvious (Tua vs Herbert) but so was OT. When Wirfs came off the board, Grier stayed on OT and took Jackson early.
- In 2019, everyone had Grier taking Wilkins. It was the least secretive pick i'd seen for Miami in years.
The only left field pick during these years was Igbo......and we saw how that panned out, with so many studs still on the board. But we all know that was a Flo pick.
Each year it seems like Grier's board is more narrow than maybe some other teams. He focuses on specific players/positions and does not move off them, which is why it seems to me that many guys are drafted 0.5-1 round earlier than i expect (or i saw projected).
