Is this the year the Fins trade down...

The 2007 NFL Draft is shaping out to be a draft deep with talent. With that said however, I believe there are only a handful of guys worth a top 10 pick. Those guys are...
Calvin Johnson
Joe Thomas
Jamarcus Russel
Alan Branch
Adrian Peterson
Gaines Adams
Jamal Anderson
Laron Landry
Reggie Nelson
Guys that are borderline IMO...
Brady Quinn
Amobi Okeye- I know his stock has been soaring but I believe NFL scouts will be skeptical bc of his size
Patrick Willis- I had to put one LB
Levi Brown-Senior Bowl has helped his stock rise

With that said I believe the top 10 talent I just named will all be gone except for the the safeties, however I do not think the Fins will draft a safety in two consecutive years. Many on this site would like the Fins to get Landry or Nelson and move J. Allen to CB. Its taken Allen a year to learn his position, now he'd need another season to learn the CB position. Who knows, more excuses for the guy Saban shouldnt've drafted so high.
Brady Quinn's stock has been falling as of late and bc of that I believe the Fins may have a chance to draft him. It's time to draft a QB. I'm tired of watching other team's Qbs excel and think to myself, man the Fins could've had those QBS. Hopefully the Fins won't be drafting this high in the draft for a long time and with that said, the QB talent won't get any better as our draft spots will increasingly lower. Now is the time to go with a QB. However, if a team like the Browns takes Quinn, and with that takes my excitement, I believe we trade down.
Many people want to take Ginn with the 9th pick. I think that would be a mistake. The guy is incredibly athletic and fast as lightning but I do not believe a team drafts a WR with the 9th pick who will be a return specialist and a slot reciever.
Another idea would be to take Levi Brown who's stock has been soaring. I believe there will be OTs in the second round that could be as good, if not better than Brown. Guys like Joe Staley, Aaron Sears, and Tony Ugoh are all great choices for the 2nd round.
Finally, many mock drafts have us taking Amobi Okoye. My fear is that he may not be a great fit for our defensive scheme. He may be undersized.
With all that said, this year's draft for the Fins may be best utilized if they trade down their draft pick to a team in the middle of the 1st round looking to move up. With the 16th pick lets say, that would be a great pick to get a guy like Dwayne Bowe who's stock is rising because of his superb play in the NFL senior Bowl. Scouts are calling him another Anquin Boldin. Even getting Ginn with a mid 1st round pick would be of much better value. With that trade we could also gain picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds (not sure how the values work). With 2 2nd round picks, we could pick up an OT like Joe Staley, a small school guy who's impressing coachs in the Senior Bowl. With the 2nd pick in the 2nd round, we could get a guy like Anthony Spencer or Lamar Woodley (whos stock may be falling in the Senior Bowl). In the 3rd round the Fins can get a guy like Aaron Ross, Chris Houston, Tanard Jackson, David Irons, or Marcus McCauley(his stock is dropping big time) at CB- basically whichever CB is still available. With the 2nd 3rd round pick, if still there, the Fins should get Mason Crosby who hasn't missed a kick yet in the Senior Bowl Practices, although oddly enough, even though he's a kicker, should already be gone.

So my mock (with the idea that Quinn is off the board with the 9th pick)
1. 13th pick-Dwayne Bowe
9th pick-trade down to St. Louis Rams who need Defensive Linemen drastically enough to jump on the Okeye bandwagon.
Fins get their 13th pick, 2nd round (45th) and 3rd round (77th) picks
2. Joe Staley
2. Anthony Spencer
3. David Irons
3. Mason Crosby- I know, I know. No way the Fins waste a draft pick on a kicker. This guy would come cheap and more importantly he would be our Adam Viniateri for years and years to come. You can count on 3 points when he's asked to kick.

I haven't heard much about Calvin Murphy. Got any links?

edit: nice, you changed it to Calvin Johnson

Nobody wants to trade up that badly because this draft is loaded with A-list talent. The only teams that would consider trading up are the niners and the packers.

Rams were horrible against the run. Their biggest need is on the Dline. With that said, they'd want Gaines Adams, Jamal Anderson, Alan Branch, or Amobi Okeye...Most likely they'd all be gone BEFORE the Rams pick. I'm sure the Rams would love to get their hands on one of these guys. Theyre definitely going defense 1st round, its just a matter of whether they want the second class of Dlinemen or the first class of dlinemen just mentioned above.

If we'd get their 1st rounder, their 2nd rounder, and their 3rd rounder just for them to move up 4 spots. The St. Louis Rams would be the biggest jackass of a franchise since New Orleans traded the house to get Ricky Williams.

I'm still not understanding this high on getting Mason Crosby or Justin Medlock...especially in the mid rounds. If a guy like that is around in the 7th, it's worth a look. However, we have Mare and just signed Prater. I think our K is already on our team.

Read my above post.. The Rams have always been amazing on offense. Defense has been another story. I think they're ready to jump on one of the big name Dlinemen. Even if they would give the Fins a 2nd. That'd be a nice pickup.

If the rams do move up, they would only give up a 2nd to do so, Carolina may pay a little more if Quinn is still on the board, Philly may also try to move up to get a pass rusher like adams or andreson, but they and Green bay will probally sit where they are with the likes of jarret, bowe and rice available when they pick. Then again, someone like SF may want to get in front of Atlanta to get nelson or landry, LOts of trade possible. I say try and trade, otherwise grab levi brown or pat willis

This trade would NEVERhappen. All the coaches uses the draft pick value chart. You're scenario breaks down like this:

Miami's #9 pick = 1350
St. Louis #13 = 1150; #45 = 450; #77 = 205

Overall Value:

Miami = 1805
St. Louis = 1350

You don't think Dwayne Jarrett is a top ten pick????? What are you smoking?
I love Jarrett (Check my sig)

But the combines gonna kill him...He has rumored 40 times of 4.5's maybe even 4.6's.

And we all know, anything above 4.4 in this league is 'slow'.

Lets hope St L or Carolina get desperate, wants to move up, and Miami gets an additional 2nd.

I, too, am perplexed by all hype surrounding Crosby. If Medlock & only Medlock is still there in the 7th then get him.

There is always Edinger who I believe is still unsigned.

Agree, the only way to deal that is to exchange both 1th and 2nd rounders, with St. Louis giving their 3th and 5th

Miami's: #9 = 1350; #41 = 490 = 1840
St. Louis': #13 = 1150; #45 = 450; #77 = 205; #141 = 35.5 = 1840.5

Looks good to me. :D

Teams just use that stupid draft pick value chart as a guidline they dont go by it exactly.

You think the #1 pick is worth the same every year? Its not, so in that sense alone the value chart is flawed.

If Quinn is siting there at #9 it makes that pick far more valuable than that stupid value chart shows. Its just used as a basic guidline.
